We hired one of the shielings (ready-erected tents (ours had a bath). £60 a night and well worth it especially as it rained on first and last day. Facilities basic -- a microwave would have been useful -- but very comfortable for the price. Only 400 yrads from ferry with 3 good pub restaurants very close and lots of places... more

we spent 3 nights in one of the ensuite tents to say they were over priced is a understatment the price you pay would get a very nice family room at many hotels with bedding and heating and a full breakfast. if you want a nice view but sub standard tents well go for it ,but i think the wigwams... more

I have been staying at Shieling Holidays since I could walk. We first came up on a family holiday here when my mother was pregnant with me in 86/87, booking number 001, and have been coming back ever since. David and Moira have an awesome set-up there, and although it's scaled back a little bit since we first went there,... more

Note this is coming from a 17 year old female, who usually loves to be in city centres, and was with my dad... The shielings offer a good base, allthough i suggest you should be out and about... more

I'd just like to add to the review above - when we checked in we asked if the tent was heated and the receptionist just said 'no'. It was only the next day that we realised there were empty tents with heaters in them and we hadn't even been offered the opportunity to upgrade. It was alsot he coldest night... more

We had the worst night of our cycling holiday here. Under the impression from website that the tents were heated, instead we spent the coldest night I have ever experienced camping. The 'tents' were draughty as no inner and the tiled floor offered no insulation, and we were provided with very poor bedding. The heated tents were not being used... more

I return to the stay at the Sheilings every year since 2002. Its family friendly and pet friendly with plenty to do. Family run, the owners are polite, helpful and welcoming. I normally book an ensuite sheiling for 3 nights. Its like a big tent with toilet, basin and shower plumbed in. The choice to bring your own bedding and... more
