From the moment Hugh MacDonald greeted us at the door of this marvelous and unique large country house over looking the town of Portree, until we took our leave four nights later, we felt as if we had stepped back into time. The house is beautifully furnished with out being prententious (full of good books and family momentos),the sevice excellent and... More

I had the most wonderful stay at Viewfield House. The house is only a very short walk outside of Portree, about 10 minutes if you're slow. The hous itself is lovely and there are nice walks available in the surroundings. The view over the water is gorgeous. The food was good, and afternoon tea by the fireplace was divine. All... More

Lovely old house, very comfortable, clean and well kept, excellent staff. They manage to create a relaxed atmosphere, like staying in a home not a hotel. Excellent breakfasts, good dinner of quality home cooking, with huge portions, and good wine. Great spot if you are, like us, travelling without a car - the bus dropped us at the end of... More

This is an excellent property. Staff are helpful without being intrusive. Our room was very large and full of interesting objects. Breakfast and dinner very plentiful and well done. Hugh MacDonald is an excellent, cosmopolitan host. Roddy, Hugh's #1 person is delightful and ready to make your time with them enjoyable. Hugh's terrier, Harry, for terrier lovers like us, put... A nice old manse, very pleasant, warm and old world. Comfortable bed and bath and a good chef. Breakfast and a dinner were good. The chef does a great pecan pie! Only complaint was Internet charge was one pound an hour which was unbelievable. But the washer and dryer made it all worth it. More

We hated to leave Viewfield House, it was so beautiful there. There is no lift but there are people to carry your luggage for you. Hugh MacDonald is a gracious and helpful host; he mapped out a wonderful scenic route for our drive to Dunvegan. We were lucky to be there during good weather, but wouldn't have minded just hanging... More

Class, grace, style, quality ...this Manor House has it all !!! We enjoyed this house/hotel for two nights with a group of 20 and were enthralled by this beautiful and well maintained Manor House tucked away behind lovely gardens and overlooking an outstanding view of the hills surrounding the Bay in Portree, Skye. Viewfield House was a perfect retreat for our visit to the Isle of Skye. The house is beautiful and the grounds are lovely and the position is absolutely prefect - just at the edge of Portree - accessible by car - with ample parking. A CAR IS ESSENTIAL for a visit to SKYE and the inner and outer Isles -... More
