Saw this on a 'romantic' hotels website and it lived up to expectations. The suite - Bramble - was charming, comfortable and peaceful, with a great view directly up Loch Ewe. Peter, John and the staff were always welcoming and looked after us the whole time. The food is excellent - it's not Michelin level, but it's imaginative, tasty and... more

In fairness, we visited the Pool House immediately after The Albannach in Lochinver, which I really enjoyed and can't wait to go back to. Many reviewers evidently love the Pool House. I concur with the reviews of LizXX and and others and didn't. The Pool House hotel has the most stunning location on the shores of Loch Ewe, looking due... more

Not much more to add except what everyone else has said. Fabulous hotel in magical location. We stayed in the Boathouse which was lovely and very romantic. The views to the Loch were stunning and sitting in the hot tub seal spotting drinking our complimentary sherry was something we will always remember. The bathroom is huge and bath one of... more

It's a privately run, quirky, madly decorated, full of knick knacks, eccentric contradiction of a hotel. But it works. We had the Scharnhorst suite: modestly sized bedroom which was to be honest, a wee bit dark. But hey, you only need to sleep in that room, when you've a massive sitting room, a huge rooftop terrace looking out over the... more

We visited the beautiful area and called in to this hotel for a drink in the afternoon. There are only two hotels in Poolewe. We were greeted with a very disappointing and in this day and age, "short sighted" request to have a drink. "The hotel has no licence to sell to non-residents". What about booking for dinner? Response, "... more

If you want a modern, typical and "vanilla" hotel, don't go to Pool House. But if you want something rather special and different, go there. It's a large, slightly rambling, house on the shores of Loch Ewe, crammed full of all sorts of memorabilia, objets d'art, knickknacks, pictures, etc. Minimalist and cutting edge it isn't; charming, quirky and delightful it... more

Poolewe is spectacularly situated on the northwest coast and its impossible to avoid some of Scotland's most stunning drives en route to the Pool House Hotel. We had high expectations after seeing the property's beautiful website and reading so many great reviews and unfortunately, they were not met. The design of the hotel, which had appeared eccentric and charming on... more

We were made to feel very welcome by the lovely staff , who were kind and accommodating and knowledgeable about the area. We awoke on our second day to the sound of seals barking at the mouth of the river; the food was excellent with all allergy needs met; the local area was magnificent - a sea view, craggy hills... more

We were lucky to spend the night in a very spacious Suite with a wonderful terrace facing the sea. I never had a bathroom the size of a spacious lounge with wooden floor pannels, a beautiful view out to the sea and a very - in a classic way - stylish shower (see picture). The whole place seem very calm,... more

We booked Pool House as part of our honeymoon trip, largely because it's recommended by Mr & Mrs Smith and our previous experience of their hotels has been great. But when we left, I actually shed a tear with disappointment, because we'd paid an awful lot of money (£350 per night!) for something that I hoped would be really very,... more
