We stayed in the family room in Callater Lodge for a one-night getaway. The room was impeccably clean and very comfortable. The Victorian house is pleasingly old-fashioned but with all the modern things one needs. Our window looked out over a large garden and onto a few houses further away. Very relaxing. Tea-making facilities were very welcome, and the soap... more

I was disappointed overall - having stayed at a fabulous hotel in Pitlochry the previous night for around the same price, there was no comparison. Nice house, pleasant enough staff, not my taste in decor (pink and lilac bedroom 4 and orange dining room), average breakfast but not much else to shout about. The welcome could have been more welcoming... more

This review compares a 4 star 51 bedroom hotel against a 4 star 6 bed family run guest house. The hotel price is in the region of £180 for a double room dinner bed and breakfast. A double room at Callater lodge is currently £72.00 bed & breakfast. hardly a fair comparison. The dinning room is antique gold, not orange.

We had room 5, the twin room. This was dark and dingy, and the ensuite was built into one corner of the room space. The ensuite itself (not a place to linger) reminded us of a Portacabin-style construction at a campsite or marina. When the lodge's central heating was turned on it made a noise which drowned out the TV... more

This is an inaccurate review of this room. Yes it is a 'darker' room but certainly not dingy! The noise from the heating has never been commented on before and as for being on in July, we are in the Cairngorms and evening temperatures can be well below 10 degrees and we would prefer guests to have the option of...

We stayed at the Callater for 2 nights. The staff were friendly and keen to serve. Bar drinks were brought up to our rooms almost immediately upon arrival, nice touch, and reasonable prices. Room was big, comfy for 2, decor a little old-fashioned, but clean and fresh. Bathroom sink leaked and shower was nothing to write home about but it... more

We stayed at the Callater Lodge during our roadtrip around Scotland in the first week of June. The hotel is located on a main road (A-road) so it can be noisy during the day (not great for afternoon naps) but there weren't any cars at night so it was fine. My husband and I stayed in room 4, which faced... more

I would challenge this guest to try a 'basic' two star guest out before making such inappropriate comments. Both the AA and Visit Scotland have consistantly awarded us four stars, which are not given lightly! Please note the bacon and sausages we use are sourced from the local butcher who has won numerous awards for his sausages. Most guests comments...

Just back from 2 nights at Callater Lodge and it was lovely. Spotless, tasteful, very good value, great breakfast (vegetarians well catered for) and nice to be able to get sandwiches, soup and hot drinks in the evening. The hotel/pub across the road does a decent evening meal (above average pub grub rather than gourmet). The staff were very friendly... more

We have recently stayed at the Callater Lodge Hotel. It was a wonderful place. The accommodation was first class - the room spacious and beautifully appointed with lots of extras - shortbread biscuits, chocolates and top quality toiletries. The hospitality was second to none - Sharman and Laura are superb hosts. The food is excellent and nothing is too much... more
