Barend was not what I expected to say the least. First impression of chalet 38 was that the interior was tired and worn but clean enough, although it did have a strange smell that would not disapear even with all the windows open for 5 days. I've just returned from a week at Barend with my husband, 2 kids and parents .. not forgetting the dog. It is a beautiful location overlooking a loch and only a short walk from the beach. stayed here for 3 nights in the largest chalets overlooking the loch we were here for a friends wedding so it was location over anything else for our main reason to stay - plesantly suprised, we were in chalet 28 which was well equipped clean and spacous - there were 3 couples and plenty of people popping in and we... more

The beds were very comfortable and the views from the lodge magnificent. Having said that, when we arrived the carpets needed hoovering twice before we could allow the baby to crawl on them because of the dog hairs left by the previous residents.
