Stayed her with my 87 year old mother and sister for one night. The hotel staff are very friendly and kind and the food was excellent. However, I felt as though I was stepping back in time. The hotel in its day must have been very grand, however is now dated terribly. Our room was very basic and the curtains... More

Don't stay here if you like small standardised and characterless rooms, poky public areas, surly untrained staff, self-service, expensive WiFi and other extras, canned music, The North West Castle doesn't have any of these these! Go NOW - there's a special 40% off offer for January 2012 - dinner (5 course!) B & B for £57.50 pn (even less if... More

We had a family room and was impressed that our son 13 actually had his own room off ours. Ice rink and pool in the hotel made entertainment for... More

You can't really say "very good", because the place is in desperate need of a bit of TLC, but it is an above average experience thanks to old-world charm, lovely friendly staff, and good food. We had great fun as we were in a big group, there for the curling, so it ticked all the boxes. However...I wouldn't have enjoyed... More

Stayed here for a week while working in the area.Ok the hotel does seem a bit dated, however, the whole place was spotless.Every member of staff was polite ,courteous and only too happy to help in any way.The hotel overall is a credit to the owner and staff alike.curling rink wasn't open yet so didn't see it,but the swimming pool and... Initially wanting to stay in Portpatrick in their chain of hotels, a lovely little unspoilt harbour, the price dictated,£58.00 pppn in Stranraer against £79.00 in Portpatrick where you can use the facilities,i.e the pool ,fitness suite at Stranraer. In my opinion the Portpatrick hotel is in a nice position regarding views wise[providing you pay the extra for a harbour view]but apart... More

When we have no babysitting at the weekend the cry is always the same. Where are we going? My wife and I decided to act on a recommendation we had from a lady we met in Peebles Hydro, another of the McMillan group, and head for the North West Castle. First impressions were not good as we entered a dark... More
