it appears there are new owners, as they ask guests to be patient while they refurb bedrooms... they appear to offer 'bright & basic' rooms, which i was obviousely put in. Circa 1970, green bathroom suite, mould, yuk. poor tv, hardly any reception -except welsh speaking channels. The reception doesn't open till 9am... what kind of hotel does that? i... more

I booked this hotel off the internet the site details are no way near what the hotel is in real life. The hotel is a disgrace firstly we were met with a dog on the receptionist chair not a person!!!!! Next we were told the room was upstairs instead of been told were exactly the room was we stumbled across... more

Llandovery is a good town to use as a base for a few days, and the Castle is a reasonably priced and good place to stay. The rooms won't win any awards for decor, but they're adequate and clean. The staff are friendly, the food good and selection also alright, and the building and surrounds very nice. It's not busy... more

When we arrived after our exhausting trip from Ireland by bus, it was a welcome retreat. My room mate and I stayed in what loooked like the refurbished wing (towards the rear of the hotel) was very nice, the heat coming through window was intense but curtains soon stopped that. Rooms were savage, cant fault this place at all for... more

Stayed one night in Lord Nelson room. The room was full of character and we enjoyed our stay. Evening meal was excellent in pleasant surroundings of dining room with log fire. Breakfast was also excellent. more

THe hotel is inches away from a road carrying large lorries through the town. This causes a lot of traffic noise especially early in the morning. more

I stayed in this hotel on my journey though Wales. The room was satisfactory and the atmosphere was friendly and welcoming. I met up with the proprietor Ms Lincoln who has a great vision for the property and is continually striving to upgrade both the fabric of the hotel and the service levels. I was made to feel most welcome... more

The Castle hotel is an enchanting bolt hole with friendly staff and great food. The breakfast was a bit slow however it was worth the wait and all cooked freshly to order. The reception manager was friendly and informative and went out of her way to find out about local attrations for us and even printed out a map. We... more

The Castle Hotel has all the basic ingredients to be a highly regarded hotel, but it has faults that are obvious to customers and which cause frustration because the management seemingly cannot see them. The central location in an old, historic but mercifully uncommercialised town in a stunning setting among the hills of Carmarthenshire is an obvious plus. There is... more

Thank you for your review, which I have read with a heavy heart. I am not new to this industry and although we are new owners a review of this nature is something no hotelier would ever enjoy reading about their establishment. especially when we have many good and happy reports and letters complimenting us. Only two of our staff...

. . . although the rest of us would need his sea legs to get to the toilet from his bed! I'm sure the staff felt they were doing us a good turn by putting us in the "best" accomodations in the house by putting us in Lord Nelson's 19th century room, but the floor sloped so much that few... more

Thank you for your review, the points within I have noted with serious consideration. The Nelson Room by all accounts has existed for many years even prior to the Admiral's stay at The Castle which at the time was a Coaching Inn and so it is a grade 11 listed building. The floors in that room are undulating which many...
