Situated on a beatiful estuary and in attractive building this is one of the worst food and drink experiences I can remember. Quite terrible staff, rude and unfriendly. Unkempt premises consisting of a number of bare lightbulbs with cobwebs and dust everywhere. Poor choice of drinks and overpriced unedible food. Complaints about the food were met with a complete disinterest... More

We popped in during the day to reserve a table for dinner that evening. Told the barman we had a dog with us. They advised us that dogs are only allowed in the corner, and that we can't book a table. So, if we turned up later and someone was sat at the table, we couldn't eat. Unhelpful. The staff... More

Stunning location: the bar, restaurant and outdoor seating and many of the rooms overlook the Mawddach estuary north to the hills of Snowdonia. The rooms are clean and reasonably comfortable though dated, and there is a cosy residents' sitting room off the main bar in case the weather is not good enough to sit outside. Breakfast is good apart from... More

Had heard mixed reviews but it was lovely and will go again, Great location, excellent food, friendly staff. Stayed in the Lodge - room large, huge bathroom (despite the slug in the shower!). Only problem concerned heating/hot water initially until we found out how it worked.

The 'staff wanted' sign by the entrance did worry us, but the rooms were well equipped, tea/coffe tray on low windowsill looking out across the estuary. Shame it was just a double bed but that's not a major problem. A bit slo service in the restaurant, but we were on a break - why rush good food and characterful staff.... More

On 2nd May 2013 we were having a nice walk along the estuary and decided to call into this hotel for some tea and cake. I wasn't sure where to go so went into the bar area where there was no sign of any staff. When someone finally turned up I said that I was looking for a tea room... More

We have just returned from a two night break at George III. We stayed in the Lodge, in the upstairs suite, which consisted of a bedroom, bathroom with bath, sink and toilet, shower room and a lounge with balcony overlooking the Mawddach Estuary. As well as the usual tea/coffee making facilities the lounge was also equipped with a wine fridge... More

Yesterday (May 2nd 2013) my family and I had enjoyed a lovely walk along the estuary. As we were walking back to our car we decided we wanted to have a cup of tea, and probably a cake, from the George. Opposite the pub, on the other side of the road, is a single picnic table. We thought we would... More

We recently stayed at the George overnight and the views were fabulous. The room was clean and nicely furnished and the bed very comfortable. Evening meal was nothing to write home about but the breakfast was delicious, the best we've ever had. Service was good on both occasions. On the down side, the bathrooms are in desperate need of an... More

My husband treated me to a weekend at the George for my birthday. The problems we encountered were the standard of food and service. Our large family have stopped here over the last 10 years at least 40 times between us all and we have never felt the need to put a bad review. However this time there was just... More
