My boyfriend and I stayed at the Lower Lamphey Park (just outside Lamphey)in the spring of 2005 and found it a lovely alternative to the decidedly tired and overpriced alternatives in Lamphey (pink frilly table cloths - ergh!)and Pembroke.
This Georgian house grandly stands on the top of a hill giving glorious peaceful views over the fields of sheep. The house is gradually being done up by the owners and our room 'Carew' was beautifully and simply furnished with a huge comfy wooden bed. The breakfast was taken in the dining room with yet more views and was plentiful and locally sourced - you could even cut and toast your own bread at your table!
The centre of Pembroke is only 15 minutes away (with one of my favourite castles in the UK) and the ruins of the Bishops Palace at Lamphey are worth a look. Of course, the famous Pembrokeshire costal path and beahces are all short drive away as well.
