From the minute I entered the (back) door from the car park the service standard could not be faulted. Catherine even offerred me a choice of two rooms and gave me the keys for me to look at both myself. I chose room 37, the bigger of the two. The room was warm, cosy and supplied with toiletries and towels.... more

Got fogged in on the way home from Scotland and dropped in for a soup. Warm welcome and gorgeous open fire made us change our plan of driving home and ask if there was a room available. Efficient and thoughtful service. Given a beautiful room tastefully furnished and decorated in pleasing colours and fabrics. Freshly laundered towels - plenty of... more

Having stayed here previously and been impressed enough to book a return trip, I'm now convinced I never need look anywhere else in mid Wales. I persuaded my extended family to come here, using my 40th birthday as the reason to demand their presence. I'll grant you, one or two grumbled a little about heading so far west. Now, they... more

We came for a Slow Food dinner and having to make a 21/2 hour journey decided to book a room. the first pleasant surprise was that we were allowed to bring our dogs with us. I understand that is only possible in a standard room. the room was comfortable and cosy and had everything we needed including Welsh tea and... more

Really nice hotel in a lovely part of Wales. The food is as good as it is cracked up to be in the reviews, it is well cooked and presented. Although not knowing the etiquette with the Cheese board resulted in it being whipped away for another table whilst I was pacing myself through the crackers!!! The room was clean... more

Hotel was centrally located and had its own carpark. Check-in was slow as hotel had got my details wrong. Room was small but adequate. Bed was comfortable but the bedside tables are rough pieces of wood and it is easy to hit one's head against the rough corners. Dinner was awful and a total rip off. Meal was undercooked and... more

Thank you for your comments regarding our hotel. Whilst we are deeply disappointed that we did not meet your expectations, it would have been far more helpful to us had you informed us of your concerns at the time instead of posting anonymously on a review site. It is certainly not my policy as Chef to treat re-fires in such...

We stayed on a mini break holiday at the Wynnstay and it was fabulous! In 35 years of marriage we have never slept in a four poster bed before - and this one was so comfy. We were welcomed with smiles and everyone in the hotel seemed to be smiling. Nothing was too much trouble and the food in the... more

Old coaching inn right in the centre of Machtnlleth. Clean if slightly old fashioned rooms, hotel/pub bar is pleasant with roaring log fires and comfy sofas but beer was rather overpriced. There's a pizzeria attached which although rather sterile in character served decent reasonably priced food. more

We loved this old country hotel and enjoyed its shabby but clean chic. The Breakfast and dinner were very very good and all food seemed to be locally sourced and fresh. Choice was not huge but I can forgive that if what is offered, is good quality. The big downside was the sound of the Saturday night drunks outside on... more

Dear Guest, Thank you for taking the time and trouble to give feedback on your stay with us. One of the greatest difficulties with an old and rambling building such as ours is trying to keep contemporary standards without losing the individuality and character of such a Tardis-like building. We are constantly working to renovate, restore and improve our hotel,...

We booked this hotel for an overnight stay for a wedding we had in Machynlleth. We paid £85 for a double room and breakfast. Good points 1. Charming, old fashioned room (room 24). Plenty of tea/coffee facilities and free toiletries. Big fresh towels and they offered fresh milk if you didn't fancy uht milk with your tea 2. Excellent breakfast.... more
