We loved our stay at the House at Mount Prior. When we walked in we were greeted by the lovely hosts and the smell of home cooked food! We stayed in the Champagne room which is large with a lovely view over the garden. It also has its own open fireplace which adds to the romance. The food was just delicious -- all home cooked and country fresh. I highly recommend having the 3 course dinner. We ate our desserts by the fire in the guest lounge.
A great place to base yourselves at if you're interested in checking out Rutherglen and its surrounding wineries.
Only thing they could improve on is the bathroom (which is very clean, but a bit of a 70s time warp.) All good though. We will definately return. more

We met friends from Canberra for a weekend at the Taste of Rutherglen festival. We decided to stay at the House at Mount Prior after it was featured on Channel 7's Sea Change show in 2008.

The house had been a B&B for many years but was resurrected by two couples from Melbourne in 2007. Rose & Graham and Paula & Paul where great hosts. They accommdated our late arrival and offered up refreshments to help us settle in. Through out our stay they regularly checked if we needed anything. The breakfasts were varied, the food very good and there was plenty of it. They also offer lunch and dinners but we were out for all of those.

The house itself was comfortable and quiet but showing its age. The location on a rise overlooking the Murray and about 12KMs (8 miles) from Rutherglen was perfect.
