While Nashville itself seemed tacky and "honky-tonk," the Hermitage was an oasis of civility and sophistication in the downtown area. The rooms were large and had an authentic, old time elegance. The staff was quite professional although they were somewhat surprisingly aloof considering Nashville appeared "down home" and "down to earth."
