While Nashville itself seemed tacky and "honky-tonk," the Hermitage was an oasis of civility and sophistication in the downtown area. The rooms were large and had an authentic, old time elegance. The staff was quite professional although they were somewhat surprisingly aloof considering Nashville appeared "down home" and "down to earth." Stayed for 2 nights on a first trip to Nashville and what a find. The lobby sets the scene which is old style glamour and the room was just as lovely.
