I drove through Bracketville without stopping for years on trips to Big Bend and West Texas before I discovered Fort Clark Springs--one of the largest spring fed swimming pools in the state. It's part of an old historic army fort which was decommissioned and turned into a private resort, but if you are a guest at the motel there, you have use of the pool. The motel is in the old barracks buildings. Rooms are basic but comfortable--on both stays so far our room has had tasteful Mexican colonial furniture, a spacious tile bathroom, good cable TV. But you stay here for the pool--one of the most delightful swims in Texas! The old fort rock bldgs and officers' homes are pretty and interesting, but further back into the development it's strictly newer suburban looking homes, even RV and mobile homes--don't even drive back there. A friendly, laid back, off the beaten track place in the middle of nowhere. There is NOTHING else to see in Bracketville.
