Ko Phra Thong is a beautiful island with amazing biodiversity. We genuinely enjoyed the remoteness of Baba Ecolodge and the outstanding service provided by Theresa and colleagues. Our wooden villa was located directly on the beach and not only did it blend harmoniously in the beautiful ocean setting, but it also provided some historical context with some lovely old books and notes by its owners. To stay directly at the water, enjoying privacy and listening to the waves whilst reading a book on pur private deck provided a real sense of peace. Open air yoga, medidation, paddling in the mangroves and long walks at the stunning 12 km long beach formed our days, accompanied by lovely dinners, treatments in the spa and chats with staff. Whilst this review has been way overdue (we stayed in Nov 2022 and our very long and complimentary feedback unfortunately was lost when all wifi in this remote world faded on evening (; allowing us to focus on a swim in the sea instead) the experience was amazing. With sincerest thanks again to Theresa and all colleagues🌸

My wife and I came to Baba for our honeymoon and it was an amazing experience of Thai nature and hospitality. The staff were very friendly and helpful, with excellent food and cocktails in the clubhouse. The room was very nice and private and fully surrounded by nature - as dusk came the sound of nature kicked up. Moonlit nights on the beach were preceded by amazing Thai sunsets (hornbills tended to join us, in the trees above). Great yoga and massages. It is a place to come to do very little and enjoy nature.

Baba eco lodge is a great balance of luxury and eco. We were travelling with 2 young children under 4 and we knew we’d probably be some of the more demanding guests in terms of making sure the kids needs were met. The team were amazingly helpful, polite, and patient with us before and during our stay. The accommodation is as you would expect from the photos. What may not be clear is how everything is kept so well and clean and tidy too. There were more creature comforts than we expected with beach towels, beach bag, toiletries, water and kettle etc. The bed and pillows were really comfy and it was reassuring to find mosquito nets that fitted perfectly and were not broken at all. Although we didn’t encounter that many insects at night really. The restaurant and food was lovely. With our young kids we were worried and honestly they did want some of their comfort foods after a while, but regardless there was enough on the menu to keep them busy and the kids menu was varied enough for our 6n stay. The pizza on the beach was not the best but fine for a bit of a change when we didn’t want to walk to the restaurant for lunch. The staff at the restaurant were amazing. So patient, friendly, never annoyed with our many requests to accommodate toddler demands. Full disclosure - we did rely on our own stash of snacks, and took some of the breakfast items ‘take away’ for the kids ‘second breakfast’. Logistically that was the only way to keep up with toddler eating habits. The beach at the front is great. As the staff promised, it was shady, safe, had the amenities like toilets, toys, the bar nearby. Yet felt undisturbed, natural and peaceful. Such a difficult balance to strike. There are hammocks, swings and a pagoda across a bridge that our 3.5yo loved. I also did yoga at the yoga spot and that was amazing. The resort is connected by one long sandy path, one end is the bar and the front beach, and yoga etc. Along that path are all the villas/ baan’s, then at the other is the restaurant , reception and massage venue. Plus more beach of course. Unfortunately that path is so sandy, it did feel like a pain to walk it. To be fair we were both carrying a child but it just got a bit tiresome trying to get through the deep sand for every meal or visit to the beach - basically 5-6+ times a day. The staff mentioned it to us as we left and we know they are considering doing something to make it easier to walk. As we predicted we made quite a few demands of the team there, including changing rooms, requesting extra milk, changing flight times. Every request was happily met and we really appreciated it.

I start first with the negative: we were given an old bungalow (Tugae) which should never be rented 220 Euros a night. Despite being on the beach with a great view, it is old, very very run down, no hot water and of course no wifi in the room, no tv and no aircon as it is an ecolodge. The houses are privately owned and I think the management should tell the owner to polish, renovate a bit his place if he wants to get the money coming. All the rest is only positive!!!! Extraordinary location that you will share with only a few people. Total escape, pure nature at its best. One of the 2 beaches allow you to swim very comfortably, even at low tide, not an obvious fact in Thai islands. Superb service and attention from the staff, top breakfast, very good food very well priced (I did not take the full board, no need) Also, very good wifi 24 hours a day around the office. Our 3 nights stay was a total bliss. Contact Theresa for your transfers in and out. She was very helpful. If you love nature, quietness and retreat, ou will love Baba lodge!!

Hidden paradise. Lovely Thai-style houses (we stayed with a friend) set in lush jungle with nearby perfect beach. Unspoilt and peaceful. Great clubhouse serving delicious meals—we ate lunches and dinners and enjoyed everything. Clean and well run. Great Hatha yoga classes every morning with Elissa. What a find!

The Baba Ecolodge was simply a piece of pure paradise. We weren‘t expecting to find km-long beaches to ourselves in South of Thailand and Ko Phra Thong proved us the contrary ! The staff of Baba Ecolodge was very friendly, helpful, flexible. We absolutely adored the restaurant with local dishes and some local ingredients, and the best breakfeasts of our life, eating Phat KraPhao very close to the beach. The huts were amazing, fallung asleep to the sound of the sea, the surronding lush nature fascinated us and five months later, we still dream of this most beautiful of places. A heartfelt Thank you to all of the Baba Ecolodge team - you made our stay a one we will remember for years and years ! Caroline & Pascal from Switzerland

Our one week stay was third time lucky with this resort as we had to cancel two previous bookings. We are glad we persisted because Ko Phra Thong is indeed a beautiful island and as yet unspoilt by mass tourism. Our 'villa' was delightful, well equipped, beautifully and comfortably, if sturdily, furnished with views of the sea. We had a small patio with sunloungers, a verandah with seating and a small kitchen area with a fridge, a mezzanine with outdoor bathroom and a alrge bedroom with lots of space for storage. Without air-conditioning, there was a ceiling and floor fan. Going to sleep to the sound of waves was very relaxing. Downsides for us were firstly the spread-out nature of the resort, we had to walk a long way to reception and the restaurant or to the activities centre on the other side of the island. Walking was fine apart from at night when soft sandy footpaths covered in leaves and tree roots had to be negotiated in the dark, or during the hottest times of the day. Secondly we had a choice between a very shallow beach on one side of the islandwith a long walk to swim and a beautifully deserted long beach, but with strong currents, on the other side. Thirdly, there was limited choice of food, which tended to be orientated to western tastes and was rather bland (we couldn't get used to the 'organic' coffee). We discovered later that if you wanted more flavour you should ask for 'medium spiced'. Fourthly, without netting, the open air bathroom led to a lot of mosquito bites, although the mosquito net over the bed fitted well. We did enjoy our 'savannah' tour, what a fascinating landscape and a lovely breakfast by the lake with beautiful reflections and the pizza at the beach bar, as well as the home-made coconut ice cream. Overall, it was a good experience but less good value than other accommodation on the island.

You could spend the rest of your life looking for a better overall combination of location, tranquility, wildlife, staff, warm seas and huge quiet beaches, food and cocktails— and you probably wouldn’t find it. Go, before someone develops the loveliness out of it.

We stayed here for 4 nights in January, and loved the island and wildlife. The beach hut we stayed in was beautiful but basic, with an open air bathroom and no hot water. There is only filtered drinking water which has a strange taste, but the food and drinks available made up for that. We went primarily for snorkelling, and I’m afraid we were disappointed. We kayaked to the little islands and found gorgeous shells, but the water was cloudy and the snorkelling wasn’t great. We loved seeing the monkeys every day, also saw hornbills, fruit bats in the trees at night making a racket, and we saw a deer and 2 parrots in the savannah. This really is a special place, with gorgeous beaches and a real feeling of escapism.

It's not easy getting to Ko Phra Tong, but that's sort of the point. We spend the night in Phuket Town, then take a long bus ride up to a little place called Khuraburi. A taxi picks us up at the bus station and takes us to the pier where we find the long boat that the hotel has sent for us. A Thai long boat is a narrow, flat-bottomed wooden craft with a steampunk motor that looks like someone welded a long propeller shaft to a lawn mower engine. The skipper stands at the stern and steers the boat by swinging the motor this way and that. We spend the next hour slowly churning past low lying islands girdled by mangroves, trees that look like one-part tree, one-part giant spider. Finally, we putter through the narrow passage between Ko Ra and Ko Phra Tong and crash into the Andaman Sea. The skipper expertly navigates over the swells between puffs on his cigarette. The we float into a little tropical cove that looks familiar to me because I grew up watching late-70's tv and this could be the location of "Fantasy Island," minus Mr. Roarke and Tattoo. We wade ashore with our pants rolled up and our suitcases held over our heads, which I like because it's the first time I've ever stayed at a hotel where wading is part of the check-in process. After dark, we retreat to our cabin. We secure the door, as advised, to keep the monkeys from stealing our soap, and we duck under the mosquito net to keep the mosquitoes from sucking our blood. Then we fall asleep to the sounds of the jungle, which is the soundtrack of an alien planet in a 1950's sci-fi movie: uncanny yelps and chirps, flutters and glissandos. Just before dawn, the whole jungle swells up in a high-pitched trill as a zillion cicadas sing out all at once to announce a new day.
