The hotel may have been fabulous at one time, but our room was in dire need of refurbishing. The wallpaper was coming off the walls, the doorknob to the room was about to fall off and the step up to the bathroom was dangerous. There was a block of wood attached to the entry floor to the bathroom which was... more

Yes, the Hotel Excelsior possesses a certain charm. Feel free to stay there if you don't require a hotel with helpful staff, working televisions, and adequate water pressure. The TV was broken and no attempt was made to help us or provide a replacement. A simple apology would have been appreciated! My plan to take a nice, long, relaxing bath... more

We just returned from a fabulous weekend in Jefferson, Tx. We stayed in the Grant historic room in the Excelsior Hotel. The room was lovely. After reading some of the negative reviews about the Excelsior, we were worried about our reservation. However, my husband and I thought that the room was the most unique hotel experience we have ever had.... more

We stayed in the Diamond Bessie room and it was fine. It was extremely spacious compared to other hotels we have stayed in at that same rate. The bathroom is large and clean and the sunroom was awesome to hang out in and just pass a leisurely morning reading while my husband watched TV in the other room. There is... more

I can't speak for all the rooms, but the "Diamond Bessie" is literally falling apart. from moment we walked in, we've felt like the "Week night special" was a rip off. This room has a built in porch as a second room... NOT historic, just built on probably in the last 15 years or so. The window A/C is on... more

We stayed at Excelsior House for two nights for a quick Spring Break getaway. We stayed in the Lady Bird Johnson room (room 214). We stayed in the Sleigh Bed room years ago (at least ten years ago). This place is just wonderful if you like creaky ol' floors, elegant antiques and just the feel of a place full of... more

Spent our wedding anniversary here and loved it! Nice quiet rooms, friendly people, cute little shops and lots of history in this area. Probably would be best seen in early Spring or Summer, the trees were a bit sparse this time of year. more

My husband and I celebrated my birthday by spending the weekend in Jefferson, TX, at the Excelsior House Hotel. We stayed in the supposedly "haunted" Jay Gould Room. The room was so warm and inviting, that I have a hard time believing all of the folklore! Do take the tour of the hotel, because it has a very interesting history.... more

I loved this hotel, with its antique furniture and guest books dating back to Ulysses S. Grant. The breakfast was also wonderful. Make sure you allow time for a tour of the hotel and the town. more

After hearing the ghost stories we decided to stay at the Excelsior. Nothing "supernatural" happened but we enjoyed the stay. The staff are friendly but not obtrusive. I had read a negative review and was really suprised by the comments once I actually stayed at the hotel. This is an historic hotel, so it is old. If you want the... more
