My husband booked us into the Gage for my first trip to Big Bend, and at first I was totally charmed by everything about it. But as we turned in, the heat came on in our room and NEVER turned off. There are no thermostats and apparently no way to control the heat so if one room wants more heat,... more

The Gage was all that and then some... perfect.... the rooms (we stayed in the new part -- Los Portales rooms with fireplaces and private bathrooms as opposed to the old part which shares bathrooms) were fantastic, well-appointed, awesome bathroom/showers... wireless internet (however, you should unplug and enjoy being secluded where time goes a little slower)....Great beds, great linnens.... Room... more

The Gage is all about kicking back and relaxing. It is beautiful and immaculate from one end to the other. Marathon is neat and there's just enough of the town to park your car and that's about it. But what there is of Marathon is very cool. First, stay in the part of the Gage they call the "new" part.... more

Patio rooms are terrific. Cenizo restaurant is pricey but a breath of fresh air in this remote part of the world. A great stay/staff/hotel/experience. Don't waste your time on other 'historic' (i.e. OLD) hotels in the area. Make sure you hit the French Grocer one block away for vintage champagne/great cheese, etc. for your picnic. more

went in april. 3rd time i've stayed there. Marathon is a great place to visit. Close to big Bend. Far distance to terilingua. I've taken many trips with far flung adventures located in terilingua and had to leave 2 hours early! There resturant is good but very pricey for me but, i'm not rich. No breakfest except for some pastries.... more

Nestled unexpectedly in my most favorite remote town on the planet (Marathon, Texas) this little jewel of the desert captured my heart ten years ago. The service is usually great. The atmosphere is 'upscale desert.' The rooms in the older part of the hotel are a GREAT value, although you may have to share a bath down the hall. (It's... more

We have been coming to the Gage Hotel for over 25 years. The present owners have since their purchase, (over 20 years ago) have put their heart & sole and money into this historic place. There is the original 2 story hotel and the new addition of a new section with regional architectural styling and the most inviting swimming pool... more

The hotel is nice. We stayed in a historic room (bathroom down the short hall), but were very comfortable. The restaurant, however, was impersonal, overpriced, and not that good. The bar is good, but they bragged on their margaritas. Even though they were pricey, we ordered a top shelf margarita. It tasted like it came from a mix. It was... more

The Gage is unique in many ways for the area. It is an oasis in the desert, with beautiful landscaping and a wonderful garden for strolllng, putting golf balls, etc. The building is a TX historical landmark, and it has character galore. The menu in the restaurant is gourmet, and considering how difficult it is to get fresh ingredients out... more
