We did a lot of research before selecting Nitun, and chose to stay there in part because a) Bernie has the (deserved) reputation of being a first-rate guide; and b) Lorena was so-o-o-o helpful and flexible about setting up an itinerary that would work for us. We do not typically contract ahead for guide services, but wanted an expert who... more

You take a boat to the property. It is a perfect get away for adults. Kids would be bored here. Lorena the owner cooks the meals in a huge open air kitchen, she can whip up a gourmet meal with ease. She is kind, helpful and runs a fabulous property. A great place to chill when you return from Tikal... more

Cabanas are on a steep slope overlooking Lake Peten-Itza which is, unfortunately, not visible form them because of the dense vegetation. The many stone steps would be a problem for anyone with mobility difficulties. Fresh home cooking, the style varied with who cooked it! We took two tours organised by Ni'Tun and like, it seems, most people we preferred the... more

Small, intimate, ecolodge located along shores of Lago Peten Itza across the water from Flores. Stayed with my two children (12 and 8) for two nights. Hosts were wonderful and the staff was outstanding. The casitas were immaculate with rich attention to detail using only local building materials and regional artisans. The lodge is located about an 1 - 1.5... more

From the moment we arrived at Nitun we had an amazing adventure. Travelling with my wife and three young boys aged 3, 7 and 10, I must admit I wondered if we were doing the right thing taking them into the jungle and planning to visit the Mayan ruins. Nitun had everything (and I mean everything) organised. From the pick-up... more

My wife, 10 year son and I had a terrific visit to Nitun in early January, 2008. With some caveats, I would strongly recommend it to others. The lodge is located on a steep hillside right on the shore of Lake Peten Itza. The restaurant and common area are at the top of the hill. The 4 guest cabanas are... more

We found our way here through a trip booked with Wildland Adventures. The entire trip was great, but Ni'Tun Private Reserve was the highlight. A small, intimate get away that you have to take a small boat across lake Peten Itza to get to. There are only 4 casitas on the property and all over look the lake. The rooms... more

Hotel Nitun was delightful and a real find. We were brought to the hotel by moonlit boat, which was a nice relaxing way to arrive. There were only 4 rooms and only one other room was filled, so we had a very private personal experience. The owner was a former Guatemalan coffee farmer with a Masters Degree in Eco-Farming from... more

Our family of four (kids ages 8 & 10) stayed at Ni'Tun for 3 nights in November '06 and it was a wonderful experience. This may not be the right place to stay if you are simply jumping up for one night to see Tikal, but we can highly recommend it if you are looking for a relaxing and unique... more
