Whilst staying locally, we had dinner at this lovely small chateaux, a party of three couples, choosing the fixed price 30 and 45 euro menus. So definitely at the upper end of our spend on evening meal. Aprox 56 euros each. The food choice on each menu was excellent, and the local wines including the glasses of sweet wine chosen... More

Really enjoyed our one night here, especially the evening meal and the wine. We had been to the bar, discussed with the helpful barman the wines sold by the glass to be enjoyed with dinner. He said we could buy these from their caveau. The  wine was fantastic so we ordered some only to discover when we got home that... More

We spent two nights here as wedding guests. The room was old and full of character yet everything worked (bathroom warm, good shower, very comfy four-poster bed!). Very tastefully restored from it's 12th century origins. The evening food was top class, breakfast was very varied and copious amounts. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Location a little remote - would... More

A wonderful, comfortable and historic hotel. Comfortable standard rooms. We looked into the courtyard which was fine in the cool weather. A room overlooking the river would be best in the summer. Attractive and refined restaurant with good food and wine. Good for couples, families and people with dogs. Close to the town on Couiza for an evening stroll. A... More

From the moment that I walked in the door I was made to feel as though I was going to stay in someone's home amongst friends. The warmth and welcoming attitude of the staff is genuine and it was appreciated. The chateau is a beautiful building inside and out and the decor in communal areas and in the bedrooms retains... We had been commisioned by my wife's brother to find a suitable location for his forthcoming wedding - he and his fiancee wanted to get married in chateau in France. Being quite close to where we live, we visited the Chateau des Ducs de Joyeuse to have lunch as well as to see if it might be a suitable venue... More

We were fortunate enough to have found a timeshare in Perpignan, France and realized that we would do ourselves a disservice if we didn't go back and visit this fairytale of a hotel. We took 2 friends that were visiting us from Barcelona, so they could experience the charm. After some misguided information from our GPS and a 1-lane granite... More

We stayed with 6 adults in Ducs de Joyeuse when we made a trip through France. Ducs has nice and friendly personnel. This chateau is very nice decorated in nice colours. The restaurant is very nice althouth the taste of the food can be better. Maybe the new owners have to find their way with a balanced menu..

My husband and I stayed at the Chateau for one night as part of a Pyrenees cycling tour. After a long day in the saddle we were welcomed by friendly, helpful staff and permitted to store our road bikes in the wine cellar! Our room was small but by French standards was fairly spacious, with all the amenities we required... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
An imposing castle with a striking silhouette; a square building that opens into a courtyard, set in a lovely garden through which the river Aude flows. Built on the land of the Cathars, the castle bears the stamp of a place steeped in history. In the bedrooms of this 16th century listed building, a medieval atmosphere and modern comforts are skilfully combined. The same clever recipe works its magic in the reception rooms, the old chapel converted into a lounge and the dining rooms. ... more   less
