Some decades ago Pierre et Vacances was very well treating his customers. It is a long time ago and apparently, they have changed their attitude. The staff is aggressive, nothing is cleaned and the resort overall in poor condition. Never with them anymore

we have stayed in Port Bourgenay many times but not in The Domaine du Moulin which are all houses (maisons) not appartments. My first words on opening the door were "OMG" its so small. The kitchen, dining and extra bedroom area(for3) were the same size as an appartment. There is a double bedroom upstairs and both people can get out of bed without one having to climber over the other as is the case in a flat. My husband found the bed so uncomfortable that he chose to sleep downstairs. I found the pillows hot and uncomfortable. The window in the bedroom only opens inwards and cannot be fixed so it bangs in the breeze. The curtain cannot be fully closed due to the window opening inwards so I was woken early with light coming in. There is a wardrobe with lots of hangers and space for cot. There is a bathroom upstairs but no loo! For me this meant a trip down a really narrow wooden stairs in the night. The wooden stairs are not carpeted and creaked loudly. I thought the narrow steep stairs were dangerous, but there appeared to be stair gates top and bottom. The loo is in the entrance hall alongside a storage cupboard. Not only did the maison seem no bigger than an apartment, it was shabby. There were deep marks on the dining table and the outside table was not clean. The wooden shutters had not been cleaned and there were green watermarks and rust marks from the hinges. The shutters could not be folded back and secured because of the hedges between the houses. We were always able to find a parking space when we returned to the property. If you have children there is a rough mown area where the children gathered and played together in the evening. We are not keen on the restaurants in the port area and went into Talmont to see if restaurants were open, finding them closed we asked at reception but one receptionist just shrugged her shoulders and said she wasn t from the area, but luckily Gladys went out of her way to tell us about a new restaurant in Bourgenay. The gardens around the properties are not particularly well kept despite it s green claim I went to the pool and found a sun lounger easily, but the area around the pools has lots of small stones so after the sanitizer pool keep your sandals with you.

Hello Francis, I want to thank you for your stay in our village Port Bourgenay and for taking the time to share your experience with the TripAdvisor community. I am sorry though if some of our services didn't please you, especially your accommodation. Indeed, I regret you didn't enjoy your house as much as you want, especially because of its size and its layout. I can assure you though that we always do our best to welcome you in a lovely, functional and cozy accommodation where you can get some good rest in an incredible environment, just right next to the beach and the harbour of Port-Bourgenay. If you found it too small, know that we propose apartments from 28 to 70m², don't hesitate to ask our teams during your reservation what apartment or house suits your desires the best. I hope this didn't stop you to appreciate our activities and services, such as our giant pool with its slides, but also with its sun loungers, what a pleasure to relax by the pool. I hope you also follow Gladys' advices and that you took pleasuse to discover restaurants and facilities in the area around the village. I wish you apprecitated our amazing Vendée and its wonderful landscapes. I am actually from Vendée so i hop you loved my region ! Kind regards, Vincent - Pierre & Vacances Villages Pierre & Vacances

20 years ago, this was a very nice resort. It is laid out well and has a good golf course, near the beach, with nice cycle paths. However, it hasn’t been updated (or cleaned) in 20 years. The houses are tatty, the paint is flaming off and they smell badly. That old, neglected smell of a really derelict building. Unfortunately, given the current situation, it is hard to see the resort or the group being able to afford an upgrade. The houses need new kitchens, bathrooms and repainting. Everything is sad and dirty. Like everyone else, we arrived to find the house not ready, even at 16.30. Like everyone, we found the house not clean. The restaurants around are ok, the ones outside the resort are pretty good. The port is lovely. The beaches are long, windy, great for surfing. It’s a great location and could be a good resort again, if they spent a few million on it. Until then, it is a poor 2 star hotel at best. It cost us about £330 per night and when you think that we paid £400 per night for Six Senses Zighy Bay (unbelievable 5 star), it’s hard to justify it in any way. It’s impossible to show all the faults, so a selection of photos attached (including the world’s smelliest cupboard).

Hello, I thank you for your stay in Port Bourgenay in wonderful Vendée and for sharing your experience with the TripAdvisor community. I am sorry however to read about your disappointment and I want to come back on some points of your comment. I regret you didn’t enjoy your apartment as much as you expected, but I can assure you we always do our best to offer you the best experience possible in a lovely village with quality commodities and activities and cozy accommodation. About accommodation by the way, know that we always clean apartments after each stay, and we always check equipment at your disposal. So I apologize if yours was not that impeccable. I wish you would have asked for our team’s help, they are entirely yours to come back in the apartment to make it comfortable and warm. But despite, this negative point, I hope you appreciated our services and our activities that makes Port Bourgenay a great place to stay. I am actually glad you appreciated the surroundings of the village. As a former Vendéen, I am so happy to read that you enjoyed our perfect beaches, so big and with soft sand and waves, as you said, perfect for surfing but I am also happy to read you liked restaurants around. I hope you took some time to visit Vendée. Sure we are not Six Senses Zighy Bay (btw OMG this resort!), but our amazing place, in French west coast offer great landscapes and great quality and peaceful time. It would be a pleasure and an honor to welcome you back ! Vincent – Pierre & Vacances Villages Port Bourgenay

Its a lovely place. Minimal room (space) in accommodation, but not horrendus! Lovely local area, lots to explore locally too. Clean pools, regular bus to the beach which has a bar or two, but the focus is on the unspoilt beach.

Stayed here three years ago and unfortunately both the accommodation and pool areas were very tired looking and need updating. The check in wasn't great and our room wasn't ready after a twelve hour journey which wasn't appreciated especially when we were given the keys only to find the cleaners still cleaning and we had to wait for half an hour outside. Not great value for the am But we paid!

Hello, I just took note of your comment about our village Port-Bourgenay after a stay that happened three years ago and I am sorry you didn’t have a great experience back then. Now, I can assure you that since then, we improved a lot our services and activities. Our visitors always have a great time in our village. Parties, animations, giant pool, comfortable apartments and, of course, the beach just right next to our place … All the ingredients for an amazing stay in the amazing Vendée! Plus, now, but also three years ago, our teams always do their best to welcome you in perfect conditions. They were and they are entirely yours with professionalism and kindness. This would be really cool to have you back after all this time, I am sure this time your holidays will be just perfect. Regards, Pierre & Vacances Villages – Port-Bourgenay

The park is gorgeous. So much to do, beautiful, safe and friendly. Nice restaurants both on-site and down at the harbour nearby. Our kids really enjoyed the slides at the pool and all of the activities on offer, including the evening shows and we loved watching the otters in the lake over breakfast. However, the accommodation is poorly managed. We arrived at 2pm, to be told our appartment wasn't ready and that we'd receive a text when it was- either in ten minutes or three hours. At 6 pm we finally got a text, but how on earth this took 4 hours, we weren't sure. It had barely been cleaned- there was dirt all over the table and floor and when you leave, they expect you to clean the kitchen, strip the beds and put everything into a cleaning bag. They don't touch the appartment at all over the week. Take loo roll with you as you only get one for the whole week! Really disappointing as we have been to a Pierre et Vacances before, which was of a much higher standard. Having said that- we did have a nice time!

We enjoyed 8 nights here. The children enjoyed kids club, the tow different pool areas, the playground, getting the train to the beach and playing boules and tennis. We also felt you could relax. The resort is looking tired. The accommodation was basic in comfort but it did provide all you needed. A bit more thought on interior design and comfort is required. The pool area with the slides felt a bit sad and in need of a refresh. Overall we had a lovely family holiday, but for the price it needs to be refreshed.

This resort is really great for a family vacation. There are so many activities you can do. The swimming pools are really cool and kids love them. The lake is nice you can rent small electric boats (yes they are not cheap). There is a small playground, table tennis area, tennis court, a golf course, a small animal farm. And plenty other to discover. The whole resort is car free so you can enjoy walking or riding your bike. The port is very close by so you can get there easily. There are a few restaurants inside rhe resorts bit did not get to try them. I really enjoyed my time with my son there for a week and would definitely enjoy going back

This is a very family friendly resort (if you don't have a family or don't like children then maybe this isn't the place for you). There is so much to do it is fantastic, meaning that even during peak season when the village is "full" it still doesn't feel over-crowded. Yes the paintwork is a little shabby in places and could do with an upgrade but I'm not convinced that for many people this would be a deal breaker. Beware that not all of the swimming pools are heated. In the main section there are 5 pools of which 2 are and 3 aren't (including the children's paddling pool) so this can get very cold.
