Vergennes is a sleepy little place with an air of period charm about it, and this guest house is in keeping with that aura (although the lady at the Lake Champlain Museum - a must visit - assured us that it is a vibrant community with a lot going on). As the address implies, the Emerson is on Main Street, about 10 minutes walk from the "centre" (which includes the Black Sheep Bistro, which is everything the other reviews say it is). The room was quite the biggest we occupied in the whole trip, with polished wooden floor and original shutters, complete with a huge bed and en-suite bathroom/shower. The bad news is that it was at the front of the house so we listened to the trucks grind up the hill all night. But the welcome was warm, the place was clean and quiet (apart from the trucks) and Bill was quick to reserve us a table at the Black Sheep for dinner. Breakfast was hot, freshly cooked and generous.
