We had stayed here many, many years ago and either our expectations have been raised or this place has really gone to pot! The room was dirty (either candy or someone's pills on the floor - glad I didn't have children with me), towels were old, bathroom was abysmal, with no place to put a waterpik, no grounded outlet for... more

We overnighted here on a road trip down the Blue Ridge Parkway, and chose the property by its convenient location. We were pleasantly surprised by its situation right on Abbotts Lake and next to Sharp Top. The architecture of the accommodations is rather ugly, as noted by a previous reviewer, but once you're inside you can't see the buildings. We... more

If you want a peaceful and tranquil place to unwind from all the hustle and stress of daily life, this is the place! The rooms are comfortable, but not fancy. The views from all the rooms and the main lodge are outstanding! The food at the lodge's restaraunt is good, large portions, and done well. Be sure to try the... more

Quite a find during our sojourn, very good rooms and trails. The lack of TV and cell phone coverage due to the mountains adds to the solitude while taking in the special surroundings. Not the best bar and food service operation during our stay, but that should not prevent a visit, helpful, alert and attentive reception staff on site. more

First, let me say that if you want to compare the Lodge to a Hilton or Ritz, then you shouldn't even think of staying... The views are incredible, there is wildlife every where, including otters and deer. The deer will come within 5 feet of you. My husband and I decided to go for our 10 year anniversary, as just... more

We decided to drive via the parkways from Washington to our friends in South Carolina. We arranged two overnight stop overs. The first was at Peaks. The situation of the lodge is superb, by a lake with a mountain view but it goes downhill from there. Check in went fine, staff courteous but overwhelmed by numbers of guests. The accommodation... more

Peaks of Otter Lodge is the first stop on my annual spring Southern Appalachian wildflower sojourns. After a long drive from Connecticut, I especially enjoy the peace and solitude that come with no in-room phone/TV and no cell reception. (After being on the road since 0400, I'm ready for an early night anyway. ) The decor is rustic, as befits... more

Not for the usual traveler, but worth the effort to get there if you are interested in nature, hiking, or are biking on the parkway. Warning - no TV or telephones in room, and you can forget your cellphone use too. Be sure to bring books etc - the evenings can be long. Restaurant on property is adequate and reasonable.... more

Lovely quiet location. Friendly staff. Clean and tidy room overlooking the lake and mountains, although the bathroom was small albeit sufficient. Easy to find. Restaurant was good value. more

This is a nice hotel right on the Blue Ridge Parkway. The rooms are somewhat simply, but clean and definitely large enough. There is no TV, no internet, and little cell phone reception, but the facility has a nice restaurant and wonderful views. It is extremely quiet and relaxing. We stayed one night, as we were on a trip, but... more
