My husband and I recently had the wonderful experience at staying at the English Inn, this is not a "chain" but if you are looking for a hotel that makes you feel at home with the smell of fresh baked cookies, then this is where I recommend you stay. Go ahead and take a dip in the heated pool if... more

Had a pretty good experience at the English Inn. The staff was friendly and courteous at check-in and check-out. Charlottesville is very nice, and the hotel is close enough to the major attractions in the area. The room was nice, but had some problems. The linens and blankets were pretty thin, and the heating unit was ancient but worked. The... more

My parents stayed at the English Inn when they visited my family for Christmas. We had heard good things about the English Inn, and thought we would give it a try. The rates of the English Inn were comparable or lower than any other decent hotel in Charlottesville. My parents loved their stay there. They said the staff was very... more

We loved it! Stayed about mid Novemeber 2008 for two nights. Yes, it is a bit older, but everything was just as it should be. The staff were very pleasant and ready to answer all questions so politely. The breakfast was yummy, especially the potatoes, and a plus in the dining room - no blaring TV or obnoxious music! Another... more

My wife and I stayed in this hotel for a 3-day Elderhostel program. We were very pleased in every way with our accomodations, including the room, the service and the breakfast. We have a grandson who is a first year student at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville and will be visiting him several times during the year. We will... more

We stayed at this hotel for one night. Our room was clean, the staff were friendly, welcoming and helpful. There is a very large pool for anyone interested in swimming. There are eateries within walking distance if you need one. Breakfast is over early so take note. You will gather we were too late, but that was our own fault... more

My daughter and I stayed at this hotel on a recent college visit to UVA. Upon our arrival, I was promptly greeted by the two staff members on duty. They asked if we were going to the first UVA home game of the season, then gave us some school colored beads in case we went. Check in was very smooth,... more

We stayed in the newer rooms - ours was HUGE. Apparently these rooms were converted from office space to apartments - to our advantage. We had two king beds, a pullout sofa, full kitchen, 3 tvs - all clean, and the hotel has a clean, large indoor pool, and 24 hour coffee! Oh - and breakfast was included, too! The... more

First of all, stay at the Hilton Garden Inn. It's new and nice and the staff is nice. The bed is comfortable. All the great things I cannot say about the English Inn. The front desk staff clearly was not happy to have to check people in. My room was very dark and the mattress was not up to my... more
