We read the review in the Times and decided to break our journey home by spending Valentines evening at Compton House. We pushed the boat out and had the Coopers room which has quite the biggest bed I have ever seen and in addition a lovely roll top bath in a romantic alcove (ideal for two!). Gorgeous evening meal by... More

We booked out almost all of the rooms in this great b&b for our bridal party and were not disappointed. Lisa made myself and the maids a lovely dinner the night before the wedding which did the trick. Breakfast was great and the b&b was so flexible - letting all the bridesmaids and partners eat breakfast at different times as... More

Me and Patricia Routledge have been touring parts of the country with a show called "Facing the Music" and when the Newark Palace Theatre summoned we were booked in to Lisa and Mark's gorgeous emporium of a guest house. The house and decor reflect English eccentricity at its best and most sumptuous. Plushy rooms, characterful details (you could only be... More

Warm, welcoming and beautifully decorated - this B&B is divine. Lisa and Mark went out of their way to ensure everything was perfect for us. Breakfasts to die for including homemade jams, marmalades and muesli. We chose to eat-in on the Saturday night and we were not disappointed. The Dining Room looked lovely, the meal delicious and it felt like... More

We stayed here to celebrate a 65th birthday with a visit to the Palace Theatre to see The Pasadena Roof Orchestra. The Compton House is so close to the Town Centre which makes it a great choice. The room was comfortable and warm. Mark & Lisa are very welcoming and we had lovely chats with Lisa over breakfast, which was... More

My sister and I stayed at Compton House in December 2011 for 3 nights, we chose this B&B based on all the fantastic reviews. Lisa and Mark are exceptional people-friendly, hospitabel and they always had time for a chat. Mark is a great bloke always ready with a story or a helping hand. Lisa is an absolute sweetheart, a fountain... More

This bed and breakfast is the best I have ever stayed in. The room was spotless, cosy, comfortable and decorated very well. Extra information was provided by a book about the room, hotel, facilities and local attractions. If in doubt you knew you could ask the owners and they would deliver as they had with their warm welcome. Even though... More

I knew from the moment that I put the phone down after my first conversation with Lisa that I wanted to stay at Compton House - and more importantly - that we were really going to enjoy our stay. Nothing was too much trouble, she booked the restaurant for our evening meal and recommended a reliable taxi driver to collect... More

I stayed here one night, and it's a great place to stay. It's not too far from town (short walk), really reasonably priced, very friendly and welcoming, with a comfortable room with all the facilities you need. Good breakfast too! I'd definitely recommend this place if you're going to Newark. More

I stayed here solo for a week and had the warmest welcome from Lisa and Mark who aim to make their home as comfortable and welcoming as possible for visitors. Fabulous bedroom, Lisa thinks of everything; delicious breakfast every morning (probably one of the best!) and a lovely sitting room with magazines and newspapers to sit in and read. I... More
