We called in there on our day trip as suggested by Rawnsley Park Station Eco Villas. Our original thought was just to have a drink, but we got talking to another couple in the bar who were eating lunch, so we decided to have the tasting platter. At $28 it is city prices, but the food was excellent with emu... more

You don't go to a hotel in the middle of nowhere expecting the Four Seasons. You expect rustic and rustic is what you get at the Prairie. The rooms are basic but adequate, the staff are friendly, and the bar and restaurant are quite good. The great thing about this place is the fact that it is so isolated and... more

We stayed for 2 nights in the Prairie hotel in Room 11 which is in the new extension and is described as ‘Executive Queen’. The room was very large, quiet, airy and very pleasant. The room actually had 2 Queen sized beds and a kitchenette. There was a desk and chair and a small couch. There is no TV in... more

This outback hotel has a spectacular location but failed to deliver to us on it's advertised charm & good food. The first thing we noticed was the foul odour outside your door but inside the lobby. Outside would be fair enough in a location like this. Floor coverings inside room were very worn & shabby. Bathroom was huge but shower... more

This is a MUST for those doing the Central Australia trip. It is a real oasis in the middle of nowhere (almost). Thier 'Feral Food' platter - kangaroo, emu, camel - is delicious. the dining rooms are decorated with terrific Central Australian paintings and photographs (not cheap!), and the staff are friendly but not intrusive. Our group had a great... more

We were told the hotel was full when we first tried to book but were pleased to get an email the next day telling us that we could have a room. Unfortunately the new rooms were booked so we had a "heritage room", (one of the original rooms of the hotel). It was fine for 1 night, with tea/coffee making... more

My wife and I chose the Prairie Motel as on overnight stop on a driving trip from Adelaide to the Red Centre. We chose it based on its website and other reviews we had read. On arrival it was exactly what we expected great character and good quality rooms. They have carefully kept the front of the premises original old... more

This was an overnight stop during a tour of the Flynder Ranges, our guide Tom brought us there because, he said, they were friends. We were so amazed to find such a beautiful place in the middle of nowhere that we asked him if we could stay the night even though it wasn't included in the trip. The hotel cuisine... more

This was an overnight stop during an Adelaide to Darwin cross-Australia drive. The hotel cuisine was both unusual and delicious. My wife and I had the feral grill (kangaroo, camel and emu). It was our introduction to all three, but we had more along the way. The rooms were lovely, clean, slightly rustic and comfortable. The crowd at the bar... more

A night at the Prairie Hotel is a great way to have an outback experience without venturing too far into the unknown since Parachilna is only a 4-5 hour drive from Adelaide, all on paved roads and passing through numerous small towns and settlements. There's also no need to forego comfort as the rooms are nice - spacious, cool, good... more
