We took our summer vacation in the Blue Ridge and Shenandoah starting out at Wintergreen and then three nights in Staunton at the Stonewall Jackson Hotel. One of the great secrets of Staunton are all the high quality restaurants that are a short walk from the hotel. (the staff has a hard time staying away from the Split Banana Ice Cream Shop too!) We hope to see you again!
We've loved Staunton for years, and come back regularly to catch the great Shakespeare at the Blackfriars Theatre. For Valentine's weekend, my husband booked a package at Stonewall Jackson Resort. There were some really great highlights. The staff all-around was friendly. The resort itself had a rustic quality, which is what we were after - a weekend escape from DC. Our room was nice. Our strawberries and champagne were waiting for us when we arrived. Other reviews here are pretty accurate. I agree 100% that the walls and doors are thin. Fortunately our floor was relatively empty during our stay, but we easily heard the neighbors and anybody walking by and chatting in the hallway. Pack your earplugs. The Stonewall Jackson was very clean with comfortable beds and really nice linens. There also were no odors, which was great.
