After driving through the Methow Valley, Washington, in the summer of 2006, my boyfriend and I knew we had to return to this beautiful area. This summer, we wanted to get away for a long weekend starting July 4th, and we wanted to bring our horses with us.
We called several places, and finally settled on the Mazama Ranch House, which is located in the tiny town of Mazama, at the north end of the Methow Valley.
We knew as soon as we arrived we had made the right choice. Our room, at the end of the main house, was small and simple, but very comfortable. Out back we found the corrals, and our two horses seemed very happy with the paddock we selected. Within minutes, we had the water troughs filled and tossed them some hay, which was available at a mere $5/bale.
In the room we found a nice binder full of maps of the local trails. We couldn't wait to get started.
