The Sou'wester is little slice of the farmhouses I haunted in college, complete with art, characters, and a fair amount of time devoted to reflecting on the state of this crazy world. It is where I go when I need to recharge, and I am always made to feel welcomed. Len and Miriam are gracious hosts who have carved out... more

The owners have never pretended the Sou'Wester is for all or even most travellers. We were deflected a couple of times on the phone and finally persisted to find it exactly our sort of place. We've returned many times over the years and staying at the Sou'Wester is a cherished tradition. Reviewers who found it too funky, too Bohemian or... more

I take strong exception to the unkind and hurtful review above. I have been going to the Sou'Wester for years, at all time of the year, with friends and family. The Sou'Wester is definitely not the Hilton. Some people think that is A PLUS. Nor is it cloyingly cutesy, like a doll house. If someone wants luxury this obviously is... more

The previous reviews pretty much "hit the nail on the head". If you're in the mood for bohemian funk this is the place for you! You WON'T find resort-syle ammenities or accomodations. You WON'T find beautifully manicured grounds or stunning architecture. You WILL find a great location and very nice people. My wife and I stayed in one of the... more

A friend of mine in Seattle recommended the Sou'wester as a "best kept secret" get-away destination 4 years ago and I've been hooked ever since. My two dogs and myself have stayed in 3 different trailer cabins and enjoyed them all. It's a unique experience and probably not for everyone, but the Sou'wester is not a luxury resort and doesn't... more

I've been staying at the Sou'Wester Lodge since discovering it by accident in 1993. It has been my sanctuary ever since. My stays have included several weekends in vintage trailers--Tramp Tower, the Blue Wave and my favorite, the Potato Bug--along with Room 1 in the Lodge and Cabin 8. The Sou'Wester has always reminded me of my childhood, when vacationing... more

My family stayed here a couple of times (once for my daughter's birthday) and we enjoyed the location, the easy access to the beach and the friendly hospitality of our hosts. It's not your average (read that as artificial and antiseptic) place. You may not find it spotless (which doesn't mean it's not clean), but it was entertaining, comfortable and... more

"Funky" & "bohemian" = dirty & smelly. I should have known better, but I was desperate for last-minute lodging in Long Beach that accepted dogs. From their web site and reviews, I expected something sorta hippie, casual, cozy. The cabin was scary. Overpowering smell of mildew, uncomfortable bed with terrible mattress, dirty/stained bathroom, threadbare curtains, ants infesting the kitchen. Even... more

The Sou'wester has been a quiet sanctuary for my wife and myself for years. Next to small dunes guarding a 20+ mile long and usually sparsely populated beach, the property was developed around a large turn-of-the-century lodge. Facilities include furnished suites/room in the main building, 50's style court bungalows, plumbed and electrified vintage trailers, and walk-in and vehicle campgrounds with... more
