My husband and I drove to Door County for an impromptu getaway weekend and lucked into seeing a sign for the Little Sister Resort on a night it had a cancelation. The property is totally self contained: dining room (breakfast and dinner provided during the summer months), Fred and Fuzzy's open air bar/grill down by the lake, a library, bicycles to borrow, boats to borrow, several docks on which to recline and watch the waves, tennis courts, and probably many other hidden gems we didn't see. It's only open from March through the end of October, and I got the impression that during the summer months almost everyone comes for a full week.

Most of the accomadations are individual cottages spaced out among pine trees, with a few in larger "chalets" that house four suites. Our cottage was one room, with a queen bed, two comfy chairs facing a fireplace, and a semi-separate kitchen area with microwave, mini-fridge and coffee pot.
