With a 5th wheel behind us, we traveled from Michigan to spend a month in Buffalo, Wyoming at the Big Horn Mountains Campground, right at the feet of the Big Horns on Highway 16, which is also a noted route for entry into Yellowstone. This mountain range is one of the most pleasant to explore. At over 13,000 feet there was still plenty of snow at the tops in the record breaking July heat of 2007.
These mountains do have their share of points and peaks but for the most part the top is a layered with meadow wildflowers, heards of sheep, moose, elk and pronghorns.
We rented ORV's one day and discovered beautiful vistas and plenty of well marked trails.
Buffalo is a small town that the tourist trap industry hasn't discovered yet. Plenty of small cafe's and other shops to check out. The larger town of Sheridan to the west is also a gateway (Highway 14) into the Bighorns.
While there, you must take a ride down Crazy Woman Canyon Road ( 33 ).
