Firstly I am normally one of those people that read reviews of places but never actually write a review to help fellow travelers. But, a week before I was due to go to Bitterroot Ranch I found the reviews at TripAdvisor and even though the good reviews out-numbered the bad reviews considerably it was the bad reviews that stuck with... more

Why did I decide to go to Bitterroot Ranch? Because a friend of mine had been there several years ago and called it “a life changing experience”. After just returning from a trip, September 2009, I could use several words to describe it: beautiful, incredible, exhilarating, fantastic, first-class, impressive, educational, etc. Just so you know, I had ridden smooth-gaited horses... more

Every year in September I travel six thousand miles to cross that bridge over the creek. Every time I cannot believe my luck. I love that remote place where we can taste the pleasure of believing what we see is as pure as a fragment of Paradise, as enchanting as an outpost of Heaven. I love that friendly place where... more

I started riding horses in 2004 in an arena.... and for me to get better I had to go to a Dude Ranch.... Found the Bitterroot Ranch and moved into the cutest cabin with a Million Dollar view.... Loved every moment off it... being greeded by animals is all it took.... so layed back and every animal you could imagine... more

My husband Michel and myself are from New Caledonia, aged 54 and quite fit physically from running and cycling a lot, beside doing a number of other sports. We are not experienced riders. In fact, I can hardly canter, and only when I feel safe enough on a horse. We do love riding, all the same, and our week at... more

We just returned from our second trip to Bitterroot Ranch and were somewhat horrified to see any negative reviews. The owners Mel and Bayard and Richard and Hadley greeted us as old friends and our experience was totally positive. Bitterroot is all about the horses. They are beautiful, well cared for animals who can give you the week of your... more

Having booked my holiday to Bitterroot Ranch before I'd visited Trip Advisor I was somewhat dismayed to read the negative reviews (why is it that those are the ones that stick in the brain?) I needn't have worried - it was all the good things that have been said that I experienced. Good food, great horses and very friendly hosts,... more

If you're looking for the best herd of horses in the west; challenging open-country riding on spirited mounts; fascinating guests from the U.S., England, Germany, France, Spain, Canada, and beyond; fishing for cut-throat and rainbow trout in mountain streams and lakes; epicurean meals and fine wines at the end of exhausting days; great camraderie; and comfortable rustic lodging, the Bitterroot... more

Fearing that this place would be similar to many of the other dude ranches we have visited, I was concerned that we might find ourselves riding tired horses, have limited riding time, and predictably easy uneventful excursions on horseback. From the outset, it was clear that none of my fears was realized. Yes, the accommodations are simple log cabins, there... more

My husband and I have had the pleasure of visiting the Bitterroot ranch a number of times, and we keep going back. It continues to be one of our favorite places to spend time. The staff is just great, always very friendly and helpful, and they go out of their way to accommodate requests. Chef Alex is a great cook,... more
