I have stayed here many times in the past, it is my hotel of choice when staying in Hilo. Though the hotel maybe in need of some renovation, the rooms have always been clean and the hotel staff has always treated me as family. I have enjoyed my stay here and have eaten at the restaurant and found to food... more

I grew up in the South Bronx and this place made me uncomfortable. When I went to check in there were many families that seemed too much at home to be visiting. I understand that things happen and you may have to live in a hotel but control the kids, Swine flu is going around, at least cover your mouth... more

This beautifully situated hotel was the low point of our 2-week stay in the Hawaaian islands. The room was dark and gloomy but not dark enough to hide the serious lack of basic cleaning and maintenance. This included a rusting-out fridge, doors off their hinges, a main room lock which was about to pull right out of the door and... more

My family and I only stayed for one night and it was a night from living hell........ If your a half way clean person that is! Absolutely dirty, rundown, falling down, rude staff. Mold everywhere, sticky carpet, deplorable bathroom, dirty sheets w/ something unexplainable! No joke we chose to swim in the freezing pool as a substitute for a shower,... more

I didn't expect much from a 2 star hotel. BUT our sheets were NOT changed upon check in- I won't go into detail about how we discovered this. Hotel staff brought us a "clean" sheet and we changed it ourselves. The major advantage about this hotel is that they let us check out at 4 pm. This allowed us to... more

What can I say about Uncle Billy's? You sure can tell that it was once an amazing hotel, as were most of the hotels along Banyan Drive in Hilo, but it doesn't look like any real maintenance has been done in maybe 20 years. The staff here were friendly, the courtyard amazing and filled with birds. It seems as though... more

Uncle Billy's is a typical family run older hotel. The rooms might smell a little musty and look a bit worn but the sheets are clean. I like the riot of myna birds in the afternoon and the coqui frogs cheeping at night. The only bad experiences I've had there were having the internet break down when I really needed... more

My wife and I are not traveling snobs: we've bicycle-camped for years; motorcycled toured and stayed in low-cost mainland motels; and spent time at the Ritz-Carlton, Westin, Hyatt and Marriott's...and this is the worst by far of any stay....period! Rust, mold, dirty floors, cheap towels, silver-depleted mirrors, broken bath tiles, paper-thin walls, smelly, a view of two decrepit hotels, and... more

This is the kind of place that is trying to do too much and not doing anything well. The staff was helpful and considerate The room was fine, large and clean but the grounds are in need of major work. The lobby is cheesy and tacky. Our room was on the garden side with lots of trees. At dusk all... more
