Maureen runs a gorgeous, charming, breezy, peaceful and affordably priced b&b in a great location (just minutes from the airport and the ocean). Rooms and bathrooms are uniquely decorated, comfortable and very clean. B&B is situated in a lush, rainforest like setting but with lots of natural sunlight flowing into the rooms. Common areas are great for relaxing with friends,... more

This is a very unique home on a beautiful piece of property just south of Hilo. It is on the main road, but road noise is no issue. I enjoyed Maureen's and would likely stay again, but my husband will likely not allow this. Rough around the edges, yes. Clean - most certainly not. I don't think the place had... more

We spent three nights at Maureen’s and really enjoyed our stay here. The house was clean, beds comfortable and setting very relaxing and peaceful. There are plenty of comfortable places to sit and relax, both inside and out on the two screened in lanais. Maureen is very accommodating and fun and a great hostess. Breakfast was always as many Belgium... more

My husband and I will return to Maureen's, our home away from home, in a couple of weeks, as we have most years since we first discovered the place. We were among her first customers, as it happened. This is a lovely, clean, laid-back place to relax, and Maureen is a gracious hostess. Breakfast is usually fresh fruit and freshly-prepared... more

We highly recommend Maureen's B&B in Hilo. Great location just 4 miles from downtown Hilo on a secluded property with beautiful spacious house open to a luscious peaceful garden. House is right across from the best snorkeling and swimming parks in Hilo. Maureen is a great host and knows the area well. Lots of sites to see within a one... more

Maureen was great. She's friendly, fun to chat with, and gives good advice on exploring the island. Maureen doesn't impose either. If you're not in the mood to chat, it's cool; just go to your clean room and hang out or fall asleep to the lullabye chorus of frogs outside. Breakfast during our honeymoon stay was quiche with freshly sliced... more

My husband and I just spent two nights at Maureen's in her blue room. Maureen welcomed us with a sincere and heartfelt "welcome home," which was music to our ears after a very long flight and luggage hauling. The B&B is unforgettable - it is decorated in an eclectic sort of "shabby chic"/Victorian style and is very homey. The pictures on... more

I cannot recommend staying here because we did not. My husband and I arrived in Hilo after dark and when we pulled up to the house we were very disappointed. The hostess was not present, not to mention the alcohol reeking husband who stared at us and led us upstairs and the number of dogs that sniffed our crotches without... more

I was just told by a potential guest about the reviews on this site. I am no longer living with my husband and all of these reviews are very outdated. My home is warm and loving and I am continually improving my B&B.

Maureen's house is wonderfully open, woody, with unique architecture. The eight bedrooms are charmingly decorated with amusing "juntiques." They share 3 bathrooms. Try to avoid the 2 or 3 rooms that are supposed to share a bathroom with a huge, ugly black bathtub. The other 2 bathrooms are pleasant and clean. Like most B&B's in the islands, no a/c, but... more

When I read the reviews on this site I'm curious about what previous travel and lodging experiences some reviewers have. Their perceptions and expectations certainly determine the ratings they give and opinions they express. I bet you often wonder the same thing too, so I will start by saying that I am a budget traveller who has recently (in the... more
