Melanie and Bruce are gracious hosts who can share the sunset on your lanei, or leave you in peace as you enjoy the tranquility and beauty of their wonderful place. They follow your lead as to what you need, whether it be attentiveness or being left alone. Their continental breakfasts (don't pass up the fresh sweet-breads each day) are on... more

We picked this B&B for the convenience of leaving out of Kona airport and that's the only good thing about this B&B. We were not made to feel welcome at all when we arrived. We were not offered any refreshments or friendly conversation and were shown a sign that stated that " we were to clean up after our selves... more

This place is located in the Kohala Estates on a slope overlooking the Pacific Ocean. The Trade Winds at night made it quite cool. Slept like a baby. Pefect for privacy. I visited Hapuna Beach and Waimea. more

This little Bread and Breakfast sits up in the South Kohala slope, about 35 miles from the tourist kitsch of Kailua. The lanai (porch) provides a spectacular view of the ocean, place for cocktails and grilling, and marvelous sunsets. Native birds abound in surrounding vegetation, and pet sheep clear the flammable grasses. World class beaches (Hapuna and Mauna Kea etc.)... more

Melanie & Bruce are wonderful B&B hosts! We stayed in the Tranquility suite which is huge, and extremely well equipped. The mural on the wall (underwater vista) is captivating. The place is absolutely spotless, and in the cupboards was everything (and more!) that we needed to feel comfortable, and prepare our meals. Microwave, small fridge, LARGE toaster oven etc. etc.... more

Just returned from a two-week trip (Big Island and Maui) during which the two of us spent two nights at Hale Ho'onanea. Can't reiterate enough what great hosts Melanie and Bruce are. Melanie actually got three kinds of lactose-free milk from which I could choose when I mentioned that I was lactose intolerant! Her homemade fruit breads are great (blueberry... more

My wife and I stayed in the Palm Suite for three nights at the end of September and enjoyed our time there. Bruce and Melanie are friendly, helpful and inobtrusive. The suite was VERY clean, the appliances were new, the simple breakfast basket was perfect for our needs (the breads-mmmm!), and we particularly like the locally made soap. The bed... more

We really enjoyed our stay in the Bamboo Suite. I wish we had more days there. The views of the sunset from the lanai are amazing. There is no A/C but they have a ceiling fan in the living room and a standing fan in the bedroom. The first night was a bit warm but the second night was much... more

My husband and I stayed here for 6 nights in late December. This was our second stay at Hale Ho’onanea. Melanie and Bruce are friendly hosts and do a great job managing their B&B. The area is very peaceful with good views of the ocean. It is also a great location for watching the sunset and star gazing at night.... more

We were very pleased with our visit to Hale Ho'onanea. The pictures do not do it justice. Our group of 4 adults stayed in the Palm and the Bamboo suites. We could have been comfortable in the Bamboo Suite but it was nice having 2 bathrooms. The weather was hot when we arrived but once the winds picked up, the... more
