Loved IT! This resort while old is a classic. The staff was fabulous; from check in, wait staff, maids, lifeguards, to bartenders, they all made us feel special. The beach was great and we enjoyed snorkeling each day. The luau was also excellent - though you only get 1 free drink, then it's open bar. We will return! more

Our family of six spent a week at the Mauna Kea this June. The beach was very beautiful. Breakfast every morning looked out over the cliff and rocks onto the ocean, it was the highlight of the day! The hotel rooms are off white with dark wood trim, a little strange but nothing worth cancelling your trip for. The hallways... more

I've been going to the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel at least once a year for over 30 years; first as a teen with my family, then as a newlywed and for the past 12 years with my kids. It has always been our very favorite place in the world. You see many, many families that return every year as we... more

Who wouldn't love this tropical paradise? Located on the best white sand beach on the island, away from hustle and bustle yet near many wonderful sights and activities, and with a friendly service oriented staff, this is the place to unwind. The beach is as friendly as any I have seen, with a sandy bottom that seems to go forever... more

Our weeklong stay at the Mauna Kea was a completely relaxing, great experience. My partner and I had read mixed reviews about the rooms and decided to stay here anyway due to the incredible beach. Our room, deluxe ocean view, was perfect. While it may not be the most elegant hotel room we have ever stayed in, it was very... more

Just returned from HI! Though we stayed in a private home, we scoped out most of the resorts, and found this one to be our favorite. We would stay there in a heartbeat, as we were impressed with its understated elegance and old-world feel. For example, the exact opposite resort on the Big Island is the Hilton - that place... more

A group of us spent 5 days at the Mauna Kea to attend a friend's wedding, which was being held at the hotel (incredible - on a cliffside tee overlooking the ocean). I was frankly a little worried about the hotel based on some of the mixed reviews seen here. However, our experience from the moment of our arrival was... more

We loved staying at the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel. The secluded sandy beach is the best one we've ever been to, and we are life long residents of Hawaii. The hotel is gracious and reminiscent of an earlier, slower time in Hawaii. Yes, it is gently worn, but that won't stop us from coming back here as soon as we... more

We got a room at the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel through Priceline. The beach was gorgeous and the snorkeling was just as good as Hapuna. We stayed for 5 nights there and felt relaxed. The hotel was beautiful and the staff was friendly. The only thing was that though the room was spacious, all the furnishings were quite old. Some... more

We had a great time at the Mauna Kea. The beach is simply the best on the big island. You can snorkel right in front of the hotel on a beautiful reef and see sea turtles and a decent amount of fish. Water is pristine and very calm. The golf course is also incredible. For a family, you really can't... more
