We stayed three nights at the Lava Tree Inn. It was wonderful. Little hard to get to, but very peaceful location. We found the exerience nice, the owner was very helpful in helping us get arrangements made for some local vacation ideas. If we were coming back soon for another visit, we would stay here again. more

Upon meeting your hostess, Irene Grunfeld, you are instantly transported from your hectic life into an oasis of calm at the tropical compound known as the Lava Tree Tropic Inn. Located on the Big Island of Hawaii, about a 30-minute drive from Hilo, and a 3-mile drive from the historic frontier sugar plantation-era town of Pahoa, the Lava Tree Tropic... more

The Lava Tree Tropic Inn is someplace you must experience to understand and love. I hope you get the chance to go. Irene makes each and every guest feel as though they are a member of her own family. My husband and I like to stay at B&Bs for the people we meet as well as the accomodations and Irene... more

The Lava Tree isn't the fanciest B&B on the Big Island. But it's clean and comfortable. Irene is the owner. She took me swimming at the thermal pond, taught me how to pick fruit off of the native fruit trees, stayed up singing and playing the ukelele with me at night, and generally was fun to be with. The Lava... more

Date: Jan 28 2009 We were looking for a quiet place off the beaten path to relax, enjoy each other, and see a new part of Hawaii after a very stressful two weeks of business. We found the perfect place. The setting is almost magical - lush tropical vistas out of every window, in walking distance from Lava Tree State... more

After our short first visit in 2003 we had the luck to be back to Hawaii in fall 2008 for longer. Certainly we spend most of the time with activities like snorkling, rainforest hikes and our favourite: lava watching. Irene's bed'n'breakfast is not only located perfectly for those activities - it is also the most hospitable place you could imagine... more

Had a wonderful stay at the lava tree tropic Inn. Irene the host was warm and friendly and very interesting to talk to. The property is tucked away next to the lava tree state park in a tropical rainforest. The property has heaps of charm and the rooms are nicely furnished. And with cats and chickens roaming round as well... more

We had the most wonderful stay at the Lava Tree Inn while on the East side of Hawaii. We had no idea what to expect and had never stayed here before. We had stayed several nights earlier in the week at larger full service hotels and were a little apprehesive at first. But, when we arrived, we were greeted by... more

This place had so much character! I agree with a lot of the other reviews. It is out in the middle of the countryside and close to the Volcanos national park and tide pools. We had a great time here. The place is set in quite a lot of land and is very peaceful. You are met by the cat... more

My friend and I spent two very pleasant nights in the Lava Tree Tropic Inn. It was tricky to find in the dark but once we had found it (with Irene's help on the telephone) we weren't disappointed! Our beds were comfortable and the room clean. It's obviously someone's home and not a commercial property, I think that's a good... more
