We own and manage three vacation-rental cottages in the village of Volcano, adjacent to the entrance of Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park, just an 8-minute drive from our cottages, on the "Big" island of Hawai'i. Two are studio cottages, each with a private bathroom; one is a two-bedroom, one-bathroom cottage. They are homes-away-from-home, with very well-equipped kitchens, stocked with hot and cold cereals, granolas, regular and decaf coffees, green, black, and herbal teas, and condiments (salt and pepper in grinders, extra-virgin olive oil and balsamic vinegar, sugar, stevia, and CoffeeMate), comfortably furnished, with books and maps about the Park and this island, WiFi, and cable TV. We, the owners, live on or very near the cottages' properties; guests are greeted after they check in but are given privacy during their stays. Each cottage has its own free parking spot. Guests may use the washer, dryer, and laundry soap in the laundry room in the afternoons and evenings.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We stayed in Laukapu Forest Cottage. Kathryn, the owner, is friendly, caring, kind and informative. The house— built by her husband— is lovely. Extremely good value. Nice little touches and great attention to detail.

Each cottage is very well equipped. The owners are not just hosts, but friends after out many visits. They are very helpful with suggested places to visit. But the best part is the peaceful setting in the rain forest - serenity at its finest!

Not only is this place so charming, the management is over the top kind. The place is so cozy and has everything you need, the location is the utmost peaceful and Kathryn and Kenneth are superbly friendly. From the moment of booking I received confirmation and resources to make the stay most enjoyable. The cottage was pristinely cleaned and has cozy touches such as a heated mattress pad for the chillier elevation. I would recommend this to any solo or couple for a relaxing and warm stay.

We recently returned to Volcano and stayed at the Laukapu Forest Cottages. A very well designed and maintained property amidst the beautiful rain forest and of course, close to Volcano National Park. The facility has every amenity one could desire and the ambiance was outstanding. The host/owner, Kathryn, was incredible and saw to every need with kindness and great information about the area. This is an outstanding location with wonderful personnel. I highly recommend Laukapu to anyone wishing to visit Volcano.

Stayed in Nohea as well as Kate's volcano cottage during our stay due to a last minute booking. Lots of praise for both of these quiet, beautiful and well-stocked cottages. First, Nohea is well set back from the one lane road, and is very quiet and peaceful. The architecture on this building is amazing. Kate's cottage shares a parking lot with another cottage so you occasionally have a little of the sound of any other guests, but backs into a tropical rainforest so it's very possible to still have a lot of peace and quiet. Kathryn is an excellent hostess, and the properties are both very well set-up for stays with fully stocked kitchens, maps of the area, guides, etc. My wife loves to cook and found that this property was ready for whatever she threw at it. All-in-all, a great location. Highly recommended!

Aloha Jonathan, Mahalo (Thanks) for your strongly positive review! Just a small correction: you and your wife actually stayed in Laukapu Forest Cottage, which is a sort of mini-Nohea (which retired from vacation-rental-cottage service a couple of years ago), as well as in Kate's Volcano Cottage. I enjoyed meeting you both and hope that you can return for another stay with us, in future! Mahalo hou (Thanks again)! Kathryn

Our reservation at 6 pm was the perfect time to soak in the transition from day to night of the view of the currently active Halemaumau Crater while enjoying a well prepared meal. The poke was good not great, and mani mahi fine

Kate's is a nicely run cottage, well stocked larder, plenty of hot water, and a king bed. None of this scrimpy queen stuff like you find at less than amicable Maui B&Bs. Kate is a thorough hostess, endless with information and desire to please. Just down a couple lanes from the national park entrance and the art and food of Volcano Village. Easy accessibility and big parking area. Kate has several lodgings adjacent, so check directly with her on the phone to get the best fit. Your home away from home.
