1st of three B&Bs we stayed at on Maui; we got into Maui late, so being close to the airport, it worked out well for staying the 1st two nights. Great location for going up the mountain to hike and see the sunrise, both of which we did. We only ate breakfast there, and although the prices were high even... more

The Kula Lodge recently lowered their rates and the value is reasonable if you want to be in the Upcountry area. The bed was very comfortable with a European style duvet. If you book unit 4 - the loft futons are thin, but the boys didn't mind and enjoyed the tree house affect. The gardens and view are beautiful &... more

My husband and I recently stayed at Kula Lodge to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We were both really taken in by the atmosphere of the lodge, garden, and chalet. The whole property had a good feel to it. We had been told the chalets were on the rustic side but cozy as well so we decided to stay over for... more

With our first look at our room, we asked to cancel our reservation. We were told that we would be responsible for the entire amount unless they could rent our room to someone else. I must not have been the first person to want a cancellation. With a limited budget, we were basically screwed into staying. The room was barely... more

Our experience was similar to that of "ANGRYINOAHU" and also felt like it was a very high priced camp! The first clue should have been when we called for directions at the junction of the road leading to the crater and received no help, only the comment that we would be the last guests to check in that night, still... more

The Kula Lodge is the biggest tourist ripoff on Maui. The pictures and articles about it in the tourist magazines are not a truthful account of the place. To state that they might be a stretch of the imagination is the same as saying the moon is made of cheese. The room that we had was definitely not handicapped accessible.... more

For travellers looking for a pleasant lodge to stay when visiting Haleakala, the Kula Lodge is perfect, it's conveniently located downslope from the Haleakala crater, it has a very good restaurant with a great view of the lodge's garden and a panorama of the rest of Maui and a fireplace in the lobby to enjoy the cold nights upcountry. The... more

We made a reservation at Kula Lodge after trying to figure out how to get to the top of Haleakala for sunrise without leaving Ka'anapali at 3 a.m. We decided to spend the money to stay overnight at the lodge so that our kids (13 and 15) could have a fun experience and we could actually make it up to... more

We came here for Christmas dinner and had booked weeks in advance. We had no welcome or even anyone at reception to greet us. We were then taken to a table set for 4 people even though there were only 2 of us. One main course was cold even though it was supposed to be hot pasta the other was... more

This is a good place to stay for one night if you don't want to travel far to see the sunrise at Haleakala. It's about 40 minutes to the crater. If you book Vista Chalet #1 like we did, you will enjoy your stay. The lanai has gorgeous sweeping views of the Maui peninsula (not all rooms do, I think).... more
