Other than the smooshed cockroach on the floor in the bathroom and the lack of a bottle opener in the kitchen, the Makai Inn was fine. I could have stayed longer...but mostly because I wanted to be in West Maui longer. more

A former Maui resident, I visit friends and family several times a year. I have stayed at least one night at the Makai Inn for the past 10 years because my family lives on the other side of the island. The family who own and run the property are very friendly & accommodating. The property is very tranquil and yet... more

Our stay at the Makai was great! Very relaxing & quiet stay. We meant to stay for just one night, but couldn't manage to leave, we ended up staying for a week! Our room was great, and we loved the peace and quiet! It is close enough to everything - short walk to town, restaurants and groceries. It is so... more

We stayed at the Makai Inn from March 9-22, 2009. The first 2 days we had to stay in their Pineapple Sweet apartment, which has 2 bedrooms, because an oceanfront unit was not available. Pineapple Sweet was charming, but not ocean-front which we desired. On March 11 we were able to move to Paradise Found which is one of the... more

We stayed at the Makai Inn in Feb 2009 after finding out about the Inn in Fodor's Maui. Most of the criticisms I have read here and in other travel books and sites are accurate. Our biggest problem was the almost absurd infatuation with being quiet in and around the Inn. Suzie, the proprietor is nice and accommodating, however, when... more

If you are looking for a HD giant screen TV or a hi-teck communications system, then this is not the place for you. Heck there are not even phones in the rooms. But if you want to be only steps away from the ocean in a cosy, cute 1950's-type inn, then you should check this place out. We loved having... more

We booked this place for 4 nights after hearing good things about it from a friend. Based on his advice, we took 1 of the 4 corner units and weren't disappointed at all. The view from the patio / balcony are awesome and made every morning / evening worth it. Throughout the night you could hear the gentle waves splash... more

This hotel is perfectly situated on the Lahaina waterfront a little bit out of town but only a short drive into Lahaina, or a few minute drive in the other direction to Ka'anapali. Beware: NO NOISE is allowed to be made at this hotel. The Lahaina Canery Mall is situated just down the road and contains shopping, an ABC store,... more

I had a 9 day stay in Maui with my sister and her 18y/o daughter. We started out with a few nights at the Sheraton which was nice but we decided to change hotels after 5 nights. We talked to a local and they recommended the Makai Inn. We called and they had a room available so we booked it.... more
