Maui has much to offer, so you'll want to decide in advance those activities in which you want to participate. Given that we are avid hikers and water babies, we wanted a Maui location close to Haleakala National Park with quality beach access nearby. Paia is centrally located for these pursuits and offers small-town charm to boot.
The Good: Although we had only rented the Awapuhi apartment, we had the entire complex to ourselves. I suspect this is due to lack of advertising by the Conservationist-owner. Access to the treehouse is a bonus, as it has mountain views and is perfect as a romantic spot, for sipping wine, or for reading a book in the evening.
The managers are laid back and friendly. It took until day 3 before they came to collect the rental fee and they were generous enough to allow me access to the apartment until it was time to catch my 11:30pm flight.
Paia centre is within 10-15 minutes' walk from the house, which is convenient...
