Great hotel in a good location.... Rooms are clean and tidy, although beds are a little soft for my liking.. Nice big tv if you want to watch local stuff (only put it on once), coffee making stuff in the room, shower did the job, always plenty of hot water... Shops are just around the corner so ideal for the... More

This hotel was booked for me via a travel agent. The night before travel I reviewed the comments on Tripadvisor and was alarmed. I shouldnt have been. The hotel was clean, the staff friendly and the location was good. Two down sides - the breakfast was poor and not worth the money and the location after dark was questionable. However... More

Needed a last minute place on a very busy weekend. Macworld show caused near capacity hotels downtown. Found this place online and booked with some trepidation. Upon arrival was pleasantly surprised at the very nicely maintained boutique hotel. Clean rooms, helpful staff, and amenities found in more expensive hotels; free wireless, flat screen tv's, a small gym and morning coffee... More

Ok, ok so this ain't the Ritz or the Top of the Mark, but for the price it's a good value. Less than a block away from great shopping and plenty of variety for food, too. So just nod to the homeless people on the street and keep walking. More

I found Hotel Metropolis on Travelocity. From the pictures the rooms look bigger than they actually are. But they are nice and cozy. I feel like the small room is to be expected in an older city building. The rooms were clean and the staff is nice and helpful. No shuttle service to/from the airport. We took the BART to... More

Our travel agent picked this hotel for us. On arrival from the airport, the outside of this hotel did not look like somewhere we wanted to stay...and we were right! The location is certainly not ideal for 2 girls traveling on their own. We did not feel safe once it went dark and even at certain times during the day... More

Pros: Affordable and centrally located. Walking distance to the major business and conference areas. Friendly staff, decent-sized room with a clean bathroom. Cons: Bad neighborhood. This block is apparently one of the most shady blocks in the Tenderloin district (judged from what people say about it on internet fora). Homeless people and drug addicts roam the streets after dark. It... More

The hotel itslef was suprisingly nice. My private bath appointed room was just fine for budget price. Clean but worn. Fourth floor street side was surprisingly quiet. the immediate neighborhood can be intimidating - but 1 block from market Street. A good value for the budget minded, traveler with city smarts More

OK, so yes, it's just a BIT beyond a lineup of the world's best known hotels, but it was perfect for what I needed. Close proximity to transit, restaurants and shops. Located just steps from Market St., Hotel Metropolis was the right price/value for my trip. The building is old, but well renovated. Owned by a small hotel chain, called... More
