Just returned from west coast holiday and spent last 4 nights in san francisco staying at the golden gate. Despite what a previous review has said the hotel is in a safe area and we walked about after dark with no problems, and it is in the nob hill/ union square area, so of course its not central to fishermans... more

I found this inn on Tripadvisor, which is where I find my recommendations for most of our vacations. And, I must say this place is overated. The Golden Gate Hotel is nice and comfortable - well-decorated and well-maintained. However, the street traffic is bad for front-facing rooms and the walls/ceiling are paper-thin; my wife and I thought the children above us were coming through the ceiling at 4am one night and we could hear whole conversations in the room next to us with the door shut.... more

Love this little oasis in the middle of a bustling city. Nice tranquil atmosphere with the most accommodating pleasant staff I have encountered in a long time. Rooms are small but spotlessly clean and although the breaksfast is European style coffee and croissants it is deliciously fresh - would recommend to anyone. Will be back. more

My husband and I spent one night at this hotel at the tail end of our trip before leaving the city and I wish we could have stayed here longer. It is a charming little European-style hotel. Excellent location, room and service. Very comfortable bed and quiet room at the back of the hotel. It was convenient to reach all of our destinations and close to many good restaurants. I will stay here again on future visits. more

San Francisco is one of my preferred destinations in the world, and there are many reasons for it. However, since I live thousands and thousands of miles away, I think I would not visit SF so often if it were not for the Golden Gate Hotel, this special little place where every day in the city starts and ends gloriously.... more
