My husband and I did not stay here during our visit to Asheville last weekend because of the fire in the mansion. We stayed at The Grove Park Inn instead, and thankfully so. We always loved Richmond Hill and stayed there many times over the past few years. We decided to drive up to the resort to check out the... more

We had reservations for our honeymoon on April 6, 2009; one week before we got married we were contacted by the staff of Richmond Hill Inn and told they had a fire in the kitchen. They wanted to know if we still wanted the room (in a cottage). We elected not to stay because we wanted the privacy (our honeymoon!!).... more

The small staff at Richmond Hill is very kind and attentive, and working hard to overcome the bankruptcy and fire problems (which I was not fully aware of when I booked a room in the Croquet Cottages). The room must have been something special back in the 1990s--charming bay window, beadboard walls and ceiling. But the bathroom is overdue for... more

Since the fire that burned down the main building, everything has deteriorated: Grounds are overgrown; Advertised afternoon tea is a cold plate in your refrigerator (and no tea); Cottages have no phone service ("Call cannot be completed due to service restrictions") so you can't even dial 911! Cottages have limited hot water, mostly luke warm. On site owner-manager (Dr. William... more

I recently enjoyed a three night stay in the charming cottages. Yes, the mansion has burned, but the grounds were well kept and the rooms immaculate. The breakfast was charmingly served and delicious. "High" tea was served on a platter in our rooms. The staff was polite and helpful. I would return with my husband ! more

My husband & I stayed for two nights in a Croquet Cottage and loved the secluded feeling. Yes the mansion is half burned to the ground, but from our cottage you had to look hard to find it. We enjoyed rocking on the front porch, reading and strolling the beautifully landscaped grounds." more

We stayed in the Ambassador's Suite and it was beyond all expectations. Very spacious, upscale, great service and incredible breakfast. I love a great bathroom and this was the best I've ever experienced. Two person Jacuzzi, a walk-in shower with glass tile, a huge vanity and fluffy towels. Even in late May the mountain breezes were cool and we slept... more

Richmond Hill Inn was eager to take my reservation and deposit on line. However, for reasons beyond my control, I had to cancel the reservation. I tried to do so on line but could not. I called two different toll free numbers, one on my confirmation and one on the website and only got voice mail to leave a message,... more

The rooms were spacious, comfortable and clean. The staff was friendly and accommodating. The food at the hotel was excellent. The grounds were beautiful. I especially enjoyed relaxing on the big front porch in the afternoon. I highly recommend this hotel if you are staying in Asheville. more
