Kay is an enthusiastic and knowledgeable innkeeper. She greets you at the door like you are an old friend - by the time you leave, your feel like you are one. Her restaurant suggestions [the neighborhood has many to choose from] are spot-on. She loaned her pass to the Museum of Fine Arts for an afternoon of pleasure. The room... more

This is a wondeful small B&B situated in a convenient location for walking anywhere in Boston. The area consists of beautiful renovated Victorian houses. Kay was a good host, chatty, friendly and informative. Breakfast was good, No hot food but Kay explained that her license did not allow her to cook on the premises for guests. Nevertheless there was always... more

My wife and I stayed at this wonderful brownstone B&B while I attended a conference at the nearby Hynes convention center. The location is in a quiet residential area just a few easy blocks walk to the Back Bay. Terrific restauants are within 1 to 4 blocks. A great location all around. Kaye, the proprietor met us even given our... more

My boyfriend and I went back to Boston to visit his friends back in college and grad school. What a terrific experience! Having stayed in many B&B before, I can easily say this was one of our favorite places to stay. (well, this is my first time writing a review for any B&B...so that says a lot!) The brownstone house... more

I spent 4 nights at Herbst Haus at the end of May, 2008, while attending a meeting at the nearby Hines Convention Center. The accommodations were lovely (I had the Revere room), and I was made to feel very much at home by Kay Herbst, the proprietor. She even loaned me her pass to the Museum of Fine Arts, when... more

We stayed there based on recommendations from friends. We weren't disappointed. While the breakfast was just average, everything else was excellent. The location is ideal and easy to get to by mass transit. The owner, Kay, seems to go out of her way to make you welcome. The price was better than most other places. When we return to Boston... more

Herbst Haus is a wonderful Bed and Breakfast in an old 4-story "brownstone" in the Back Bay area of Boston. The rooms are "homey" and comfortable and Kay is a wonderful host. We loved enjoying appetizers and a glass of wine on her deck off the parlor. And the breakfasts were delicious - fresh fruit, yogurt, juices, coffee, and always... more

We visited when the hostess was not there, so our experience was more sterile. The location is excellent. Most of Boston is within walking distance or the T is a couple blocks away. Tremont Street, which is close by, has several lovely restaurants (we recomend "Pops") and venues for music. Very quiet. Parking is free, but at your own risk.... more

If you want to stay in an extremely clean, quiet, and well situated B & B in Boston, then you want to stay at the Appleton Street-Herbst Haus!. Here are a few reasons why: 1.
