We visited when the hostess was not there, so our experience was more sterile. The location is excellent. Most of Boston is within walking distance or the T is a couple blocks away. Tremont Street, which is close by, has several lovely restaurants (we recomend "Pops") and venues for music. Very quiet. Parking is free, but at your own risk.... more

If you want to stay in an extremely clean, quiet, and well situated B & B in Boston, then you want to stay at the Appleton Street-Herbst Haus!. Here are a few reasons why: 1. Kay is a wonderful hostess. She made sure that we felt welcome in her guest house and gave us many great tips on how to... more

Kay Herbst's Haus is in a charming neighborhood within walking distance of many of Boston's top attractions -- the Common, the theatre district, the Prudential Center, the river park and the Pops shell. It's on one of those quiet treelined streets with the serpentine townhouses for which the South End is famous. It's practically next door to the Appleton Bakery... more

Was under some construction at the time and was not informed about it ahead of time. We were not able to use the parlor and the kitchen was quite a mess. We felt like unwelcomed guests for the majority of the time. Other than that, the place was nice and in a great location. The owner was very unprofessional. more

For over twelve years, my Bed and Breakfast has earned a fine reputation and the guest books are filled with accolades, expressions of gratitude, and sincere appreciation. Many of my guests have become personal friends. I’m happy to report that the kitchen is finished and we are back to normal now. The construction which was scheduled to be completed before...

We wanted the charm and intimacy of a B&B amidst the bustle of close-in Boston. And we wanted it on a college graduation weekend when the rates at traditional hotels are jacked up as high as the top story of the Prudential Center. Luckily for us we found the South End's Herbst Haus and the graciousness of Kay Herbst. Both... more

I had a wonderful stay at the Herbst Haus. The accommodations were great and the hostess, even better. I defy anyone to find a more comfortable and relaxing place to wind down a hectic day in Boston. And the room rates - surprisingly reasonable! (By Boston standards, anyway). Easily one of the best deals in town. I highly recommend it.... more

This charming B&B is located on a quiet street just a few minutes walk from Copley Square and all the attractions of Back Bay. Our room was pleasant and the breakfast was superb. Kay is a wonderful and friendly hostess. It would be hard to imagine a better place to stay for a couple in Boston. more

We stayed for 3 nights at the Herbst Haus and found Kay to be the perfect hostess. The accommodation is comfortable and homely while breakfast is appetizing and freshly prepared. Set in a lovely part of town, Herbst Haus is an ideal choice for exploring Boston and the use of Kay's guest ticket to the Museum of Fine Arts was... more

coming from France and looking for authentic Boston athmosphere, we could not find a better place than Kay Herbst house: a beautiful victorian brownhouse in a quiet central location with lots of restaurants nearby. A bright, confortable and elegantly furnished bedroom, delicious breakfast in the dining room and, above all, a charming and entertaining Kay made our 4 day stay... more
