Excellent hostel, location is central, just a walk from train station, zoo, park, right amongst many cool bars, shops and eateries. Breakfast is fine, fairly standard. Rooms were cleaned daily & if you like a very very soft mattress this is the bed for you. However very very noisy at night

We stayed at Hostelling International for one night in January 2012. The hostel itself is in a central location and is great for exploring San Diego and the local bar/restaurant scene.

My second visit (each in Dec). HI Market Street continues to be an excellent place for me. Close to Gas Lamp activities, waterfront, grocery, bus route. Hostelling International San Diego Downtown is always reliable when I need to stay downtown. The staff are particularly friendly and helpful. Perfect for when you're partying; not as ideal for early rising.
