This hotel is great! The staff is unbelievably friendly!!! Seriously, the manager, Lisa, is the most helpful person ever. We were pleased with all of the staff. The housekeeping staff was superb. This is a great hotel if you are visiting San Diego and don't want to spend at least $150 a day. Location is close to Balboa Park and not too far from Downtown either. The shared bathrooms and showers are very clean. The (free) breakfast is simple but very well done. Service is A+. more

The Occidental was perfect for our quick weekend trip to San Diego. The location was incredible - walking distance to Balboa Park and the zoo.
