Generally we enjoyed our stay at the Sofia, on arrival we had a very pleasant and fast reception, the rooms are small but clean and very comfortable, public transport is very handy, and a plethora of restaurants are in easy walking distance. Our only complaints are we arrived around 9pm after settling in and grabbing a bit to eat, my... More

The hotel is located in the Gaslamp District, so there are literally dozens of restaurants and shops within walking distance. The room was small, as was the toilet/shower area (no tub in our room). But the room was clean, and most of the staff were courteous. The bartender on duty Wednesday, May 8 through Friday, May 10 was excellent (I'm... More

My son and I decided to visit San Diego for the first time and we stayed at this hotel because we were able to get a good deal through Travelzoo. The hotel was very nice, the staff was very friendly and the valet was amazing. He went out of his way to be helpful. We used many cabs while visiting... More

The hotel has a good location in the downtown, but the restaurant, the car parking are way too expensive. The rooms even the deluxe is really small and the bathroom is divided in two, ridiculous, and the worst part is the constant smell of sewage.

I booked this hotel at hotels.com and got very good price comparing with its own website. The location is the best value. So many lines of bus can bring you to any place of city. You can walk to the mall, Balboa park, beach. The air condition is central air condition with temperature control, which surprised me. The room is... More

This was a better than expected stay for us. Room was very clean, including the bathroom. The bed was comfortable, coffe maker, microwave and refrigirator. We stayed for 5 nights. It's a walking distance to the gaslamp quarter, to little Italy and to the beach. There are many restauranst around. Very friendly staff. The only problem - Expensive valet parking.

We took a little trip down to San Diego for a couple of nights and stayed at the Sofia Hotel. It is located in a great location for walking to restaurants and other activities. We had a studio queen and it was clean and very comfortable. The Hotel is old so the rooms are small, and it was nice to... More

As soon as I heard my meetings were going to be in San Diego, I made sure I could stay at the Sofia. Some recent Trip Advisor reviews had me concerned that perhaps the service here had slipped, but everything was top-notch for my stay. When I checked in, the desk clerk moved my room without my asking because he... More

The Sofia Hotel is a fabulous place to stay in San Diego. Very central to the Gaslamp District and everything in the centre is in walking distance. The rooms are of a high standard but as the 4th hotel I stayed in during my California trip I did find the room quite small. However maybe they do get the award... More

Thank you for taking the time to write a review about your recent stay at The Sofia Hotel San Diego and for pointing out what you enjoyed about your recent stay with us. I agree that the Valet Parking cost is high and does vary from hotel to hotel in downtown San Diego. However, the average nightly Valet Parking rates... More

Stayed at the Sofia for 3 nights, the location for the hotel is excellent as it is closely located to the Gaslamp Quarter, USS Midway museum and there are good transport connections to places like Seaworld. The hotel staff were all very friendly and helpful (which is good if your a tourist). There is however one snag ..... The rooms.... More
