Despite the noise from the street outside, the shabby and none-too-clean room, and having a bathroom that was barely big enough to swing a cat in down the corridor, this is a great hotel. What makes it great are the rooms, each individually painted and some of them stunning, the location and the value. more

We booked the Carlton Arms after reading the website and online reviews. Some things are true - it is one of the cheapest places you'll find, has a good location and no bed bugs or anything bad like that. However, it's quite dirty, dark, and the friendly staff which I've read about didn't seem to be on duty during our... more

This was my second time at The Carlton, and it wont be the last. Don't be put off by the negative reviews, the hotel does have an edgy feel, but it is NOT unsafe. It's not spotless, the beds and doors creak, the heat pipes cough and moan, you get noise from the street, the floors are uneven......but I wouldn't... more

I booked a room for my stay in NY well in advance, only to have it canceled on my mere weeks before leaving for NY with barely a "sorry". Now I'm basically room and boardless. I do not recommend this very unprofessional establishment. more

I know a lot of people will not agree with my review because this hotel has so many fans...but here goes. During my 5 night stay in New York City, I couldn't decide which of 2 hotels to stay in, so I decided to stay in both, 3 nights in Greenwich Village and 2 nights at this one, close to... more

However New York City is a place to experience. my friend and i stayed at the "Ye Olde Carlson Arms" I highly recommend if you want something affordable and different.... more

You can stay in a room that is designed like a French garden, or in one that is purple and gold. A double room came to 80 bucks per night in 2006. Area is central and safe more

People, ignore all the reviews about dirty dingy rooms. I interned in New York last summer and commuted back and forth 10 weeks in a row. I stayed in a different room each week(each room is painted by a different artist). All the rooms were clean and pretty spacious. Had cool furniture and comfy beds. The sheets were ALWAYS clean... more

I have been at Carlton Arms in november and was a little bit afraid once I have booked it on internet. But I had a nice surprise when I got there and knew the rooms, funny and nice... But the biggest surprise I had when I met people who work there... They are so friendly and helpfull and I actually... more

I stayed at Carlton Arms in mid-June 2009. I was able to walk with my carry-on luggage from Grand Central Station up 3rd Ave and by the time I got to 25th St. I had walked by every ethnic restaurant or bakery imaginable including the new location of the best Jewish Deli in NY which always will be the Second... more
