For a trip right before Christmas, we stayed at the Ace Hotel. Pretty cool place and reasonable prices for rooms, especially for New York City. Bohemian is one way to describe it, Spartan would be another. Dorm-like is another. Especially the rooms with bunk beds. Yeah, bunk beds. I stayed in a room with a king bed while my sisters... more

You'll find the hotel at 23th Street/Broadway. The whole Hotel is so stylish! You've to see it, even if you don't want to check in. The walls are black, with few exceptions, and the rooms are soooooo cool! Black Walls, except that one behind the bed. On this wall, there are sites out of a old encyclopedia. In my room... more

The best thing about the Ace is the staff - casual, yet professional. And the bedding is good. Oh,and free wifi! Plus the place is very clean. But... The hallways were as appealing as a 1940's office building. My square room with swingarm lamps featured black, gray and off white walls and trim. These are cold, not bold choices, especially... more

Things I don't typically expect in my hotel room: a turntable, a '50s style refrigerator with enough beverages to hydrate the entire squad of the New York Knicks, a dented metal rolling cart that appeared to come out a thrift shop, 3D glasses for the pay-per-view gay porn. Although I needed (and used) none of these items, they were in... more

Loved my stay at Ace. A warm, welcoming lobby. Staff were terrific, Stumptown coffee right in the lobby was a nice break from the old Starbucks routine. I'd say that the hotel is definitely geared for the younger crowd, but it wasn't over the top. I'm in my early 40s and I felt right at home. more

So when you walk into the lobby, you'll notice this hotel is cool and hip...lots of people in their 20s-40s with the mac books and iphones out, and always a fun vibe. The staff are uber friendly and check-in was quick. Don't expect to get into your room much earlier than 3pm. The room itself was more kitchy than upscale... more

I came to New York for a couple days of Christmas shopping and fun. I came across an error in pricing on the website that enabled me to afford to stay here this trip. (Ace is steep, but still fairly reasonable for NYC.) But, the rate was kinda a miracle and I jumped on it. 2 nights at 250, one... more

Bed super comfortable. Aircon not working. Chocolate donuts excellent. But I simply asked for two faxes to be sent. Two days later, I had to inquire at the front desk, 3 times, to find out what had happened to them (had they been sent successfully? where were the original sheets?). Turns out neither had gone through. But they hadn't bothered... more

The hotel is really unique and you get that sense from the minute you walk in. It has a friendly hipster vibe with a beautiful lobby and bar. At night it was a bit of a scene but rooms are very quiet. Stayed in a standard room with King size bed and was plenty big (especially by NYC standards). Bathroom... more
