Ritz-Carlton NYC Central Park

My reviews consist of just the hotel fitness centers, as I am a fitness professional and tend to pick my hotels by the quality of their gyms.

The Fitness Center and Movement Studio of the Ritz-Carlton NYC Central Park are located in the lower level of the hotel, accessible by elevator. They are both clean, well lit and comfortable in air temperature, with access only by room key card (and currently only available to fully vaccinated guests, November 2021).

The fitness center is roomy with cardio equipment on one end and strength machines on the other. Between the areas is a “kitchen” type area with complimentary chilled bottles of water and Gatorade, towels, and headphones. Adjacent to this area are free weights, barbells, physioballs, kettlebells, medicine balls, foam rollers and fitness mats.

The cardio area contains
4 Technogym treadmills
2 Technogym ellipticals
2 Technogym cross trainers
1 Technogym escalator style stair stepper
1 Technogym upright bike
1 Technogym recumbent bike
All equipment seems newer, in good working order and include screens with working TV access.
There are no internal or external fans on these machines or in the room in general.

The strength machines are all Technogym and include
Leg press
Chest press
Multipower barbell
Dual adjustable pulley upper & lower body machine
Chin up/dip/leg raise
Lat pull
Once again all are well maintained and very clean.

The room has plenty of mirrors, so it appears light and bright, despite the lack of natural light on this below grade level of the hotel.

The Movement Studio is an entirely separate room from the Fitness Center. Located around the corner, once again only accessible to guests with room key card. This room has 2 Peloton bikes (note: pay attention to the login information on the stickers at the bottom of the screen if you do not have a Peloton account so that you do not need to create one). Nearby is a Concept 2 rower. Also In this room is a Fitness On Demand system with a huge TV monitor to take virtual fitness classes. One problem: the access screen to select the class is outside the entrance door, so you will need to keep running out (bring your key card to avoid getting locked out) and back in if you choose the 2 minute HIIT classes. This screen should have been placed inside the studio, next to the TV monitor where the class is actually projected. Also in this studio are sets of hand weights, kettlebells, medicine balls, physio balls, yoga mats and yoga blocks as well as chilled bottled water, towels and headphones.

Both studios have gym wipes and hand sanitizer available.

Overall, this is a well stocked and maintained fitness center with nearly anything one could hope to utilize while away from home.

Here’s what you need to know: great hotel that stands out in its management and customer service. Had the most warm and engaging young manager (the best we’ve ever had the pleasure of interacting with in hospitality) Andrea Munoz really engage with my family (especially the kids) to make for the most memorable vacation after their post pandemic reopening in early June 2021.

Given that hotels like the ritz and the four seasons and the plaza have incredible locations and beautifully appointed rooms as just table stakes, what really makes one more memorable than the other is how they make you feel during your vacation and how well managed these properties are. That’s why I would put Ritz Central Park amongst the best of the best in the country. The staff and management go out of their way to welcome you with warmth and courtesy. I cannot overstate our appreciation for Andrea who displayed the most genuine affinity and care for her guests and my family (especially my 4 and 7 year olds) were completely overjoyed in their interactions with her. Obviously that customer focus trickles down to all her staff and they created a magical week long stay at the property for us.

The hotel’s location is as good as any in NYC overlooking Central Park and the room was gorgeous with elegant styling (e.g. marble bathrooms with all the amenities), generous space, and beautiful appointments (e.g. amazingly comfortable linens / bed and Nespresso service available upon request).

The phones are always picked up promptly and all requests are taken care of without ever a need to call back.

Overall, an amazing visit and we will be sure to patronize this property for years to come.

My husband and I stayed here Valentines weekend for our babymoon! I made them aware and they had two stuffed animals for our future baby waiting for us on the bed. I also booked one night with points (a basic room, because you cannot book Central Park views with points) and two nights of a room with a view, and they were kind enough to surprise us with an upgrade for the one night booked with points so we could spend all 3 nights in the same room with a view (which by the way is amazing) we were on the 11th floor.

Service was fast when we needed it. Called down for ice a few times and was brought up within 5 minutes. Room service breakfast only took about 30 minutes to arrive, and it was good, but naturally overpriced (but it’s the Ritz so I guess what do you expect?). We only ate at the hotel restaurant upon arrival. The food was good but nothing to write home about considering the price.

Housekeeping, the front desk, concierge, and doormen were all very friendly and helpful.

Honestly my only disappointment is they currently aren’t selling Ritz Central Park mugs and I was super excited to get one before realizing they aren’t currently available.

100% recommend. Would definitely stay here again on a future trip to NYC.

The Ritz Central Park is an iconic hotel not only in NY but in the world. My wife and I stayed here for a 3 night weekend. We booked a grand park view room which was well appointed and had a great view. Everything was perfect until my wife wanted to take a bath before our dinner. I started to fill up the tub when I noticed something floating and sticking to the bottom of the tub. I brought my wife to confirm. IT WAS SEMEN. I immediately contacted the front desk. They sent up a maid to clean the tub. I talked to the manager who said it is probably just conditioner. It was not conditioner, and even if it was, they are a health certified 5 star hotel and this showed that our room was not cleaned before we checked in. We opted to move to a different room since we concluded that our room was disgusting. The only room available was a partial park view. What management offered me for these troubles was $200, $100 a night for the remainder of the stay. The bare minimum they could have offered. I have stayed in Ritz carltons many times before and the only issue I had was at the tahoe location where we had two queens when we had booked a king. When we notified them of this they set us up in a luxurious residence in the hotel and ended up comping our entire stay.

While the hotel is nice, the cleanliness of the room, especially in times like now is paramount. When paying $1,200 a night for a room you expect the cleanliness and service to be perfect. I will not be staying here again.

Checked in for a seven night stay as a lifetime gold elite member of Marriott. I have stayed here many times and was excited to see the newly advertised grand redesign and renovations.

Denied upgrade at check in, and told one would only be available the last night of my stay. Shown to a room that was supposed to be “boldly redesigned”, as their advertising says. I have stayed at the hotel many times. The rooms have had changes of carpet and furniture in the bedroom areas. Drapery, which I later discovered was covered in mold, remains the same. Bathrooms have seen absolutely no renovations and are very tired and dated. Toiletries are not on par with other five star properties, and are overly fragranced. Simple things like hair dryers are cheap and resemble what one would find in a budget hotel.

No welcome amenity in the room as per promised award tier.

I had to change rooms the first evening as the drapery was covered in mold. Turndown has been missed the first two nights of the stay. A large black garbage bag with garbage that wasn’t my own was left in the room by cleaning staff on the first day, and was discovered when I returned to the room. Cleaning standards are lax and seem to be a bare minimum, not to mention cleaning carts left outside in hallways of the hotel are a constant eyesore.

Compared to a recent stay at the Four Seasons, there is truly no comparison. Staying at a Five Star hotel is all about attention to detail. Things like your toiletries neatly arranged, slippers left by your bed at turndown. Water by your bedside table. This is nonexistent here.

Sadly, this property seems to lack any attention to detail whatsoever and it shows. This property seems more like a three star property in many ways. I am sad to see a property that I used to love so lacking in so many areas. The only word I can use to describe it now is lacklustre.

My husband and I just checked out and I have to say I was disappointed. We were celebrating a milestone anniversary and our first COVID trip. At check-in, the front desk member seemed distracted and/or disinterested. They upgraded us to a partial park view (based on my Bonvoy Gold status) on a low floor, but the “upgraded” room was an ADA room with peeling paint on the ceiling above the shower. Furthermore, the shower could not be operated without water pouring onto the slippery floor which created a hazard. In all likelihood, I should have requested another room, but was tired and didn’t have the energy to complain. Also, we ordered a new telephone remote, the gentleman came into the room without knocking to deliver it. He mentioned that he thought we were out, but I still think he should have knocked before entering.

I mentioned some of these details when I checked out, but front desk seemed a little flustered and/or disinterested.

On the upside, the concierge, doormen and room service was fabulous. The hotel itself is beautiful. I’d totally be willing to try the Ritz Central Park again, and hope for a better experience. Maybe they were just having an off weekend? It’ll be even better when they re-open the bar, restaurant and spa.

The hotel located in front of central park was just average old luxury hotel in NYC.
I like to leave comments with pros and cons. I hope this help.

Pros:

Location: Just in front of central park

Gym: Very nice gym. Technogym on site, and the gym have drinks like water or energy drinks to drink, and also have towels and headsets to use. The size was small but very well thought.

Service: I enjoyed mystique service. I had couple times that I never experienced mystique service and this was nearly first time that I experienced properly.

Cons:

View: I do not expect like all room having great central park view but I think in like property cost starting near $1000 cannot have room with wall view.

Room: It cost near $1000, I think I can ask more than hotels costing around $500. But I think I did not experience that much difference. The room was having boring design, it never felt like property priced as $1000. I would not mention specific hotel names but I think this hotel is not on same level with hotels under competition.

Restaurants: It was closed... I think even restaurants cost extra from room charge, it is still sales point of hotel.

Final words; Software was great but many hardware was disappointing. It would be likely to be hard to recommend this hotel to others but recommend other same level hotels near by.

My husband and I traveled to NY on business in late March. Because we were able to book through our company, we enjoyed a discounted rate and hence found the hotel to match that value. Had we paid $1,200+/night for the room, we would have been disappointed.

We are Ambassador level, but I can tell you that there are zero benefits offered to Marriott's most loyal. Check in went smoothly but we were not given any kind of upgrade, despite the hotel being nowhere near capacity (and plenty of rooms available for booking on the app). At other Ritz Carlton properties around the world we have enjoyed a room upgrade, club access, etc. but you get nothing like that at the Ritz central park.

I will say that our "no view" deluxe king room was SILENT. It's really hard to find a truly quiet hotel room in midtown, but this was it. Your view may be of an interior courtyard and brick wall, but you'll sleep like a rock!

The room itself was spacious and the bathroom was beautiful and comfortable. The room does not have any kind of coffee or tea. There's a mini fridge, but it won't hold more than a few small items. Everything was very clean. None of the staff wore masks which we actually loved. Enough COVID theater!

The wifi didn't work the first two days we were there but we had 5g service throughout the hotel.

One of the highlights is the gym, which includes both a normal cardio/weights room as well as a "studio" with mats and 2 pelotons.

The bar is really beautiful and well spaced out. We had drinks there twice and dinner once. The dinner was just OK, but the martinis are delicious!

The location is great especially if your business is in midtown. The bar is a great place to have a business meeting or host clients because it was relatively quiet without feeling dead.

We spend 12+ hours/day at the office and only use the hotel for sleep, gym, bar. While we would definitely return on a business trip at a discounted rate, we would not "splurge" for $1,200+/night for a room here.

This Ritz Carlton lives up to expectations. Ther service is superb, everyone from doorman, reception, restaurant, room service, housekeeping and concierge do an excellent job and they take pride in their top-notch customer service. Truly a luxury experience. Daniel Perez the concierge was super helpful in making dinner reservations at nice restaurants in a pinch when other plans fell through. Room service food was good and delivered promptly by attentive staff. My favorite- the hotel is pet friendly. I traveled with my two dogs and they were pampered with dog beds, bowls, and made me feel like they were truly welcome. The hotel is directly in front of Central Park so going for walks with the pups was beyond convenient. All in all a great experience. If I could find one thing to complain about it would be that the room was extremely hot at night and I could not regulate the temperature as there was no thermostat (this is an older building). I was able to crack the window open slightly and that helped. I've stayed at many Ritz Carltons, some of which were not great. However the Central Park location is amazing and I would happily return next time I'm in town. Also, the location can't be better, it's walking distance to so many things (Rockefeller Center, Radio City Music Hall, shops on Madison, Central Park, St. Patrick's cathedral, etc. Highly recommend!

We were in NY for a long weekend to celebrate a friend’s birthday and stayed at the Ritz. The location on the Park is nice for morning strolls. We had a park view on the sixth floor which was adequate. There was one sink but very nice counter space and storage in the bathroom. The room was pleasant but the bed was soft for someone with back issues. However, we were disappointed with the overall experience considering the price point, especially as compared to other 5 star hotels in NYC.

First, the great: Housekeeping was responsive and flexible with our schedules. One day we had full service after 8 pm. The doormen, especially Felix, were friendly and helpful. In-room dining for breakfast was very fast and was willing to do special orders for items not on the menu. Second, the adequate: The front desk was civil but seemed indifferent overall. We booked through AmEx and did not receive an upgrade, but I did not downgrade the rating for this; I note the fact merely for information. Third, the worst: a friend and I were first to arrive in the bar for pre-dinner drinks and the waiter was slow to approach although we were the only people in the bar. A male guest arrived shortly after us and received a much more attentive level of service. I explained that others were joining us and we had a dinner reservation; however, this fact did not expedite or change his level of service.

We also stayed at the Ritz in Atlanta in the past few years and noted a decrease in the level of service. It feels like the Ritz has lost a couple of steps. We can only hope the Hotel is having temporary post-Covid adjustment pains and will again measure up to its original branding of “ladies and gentlemen serving ladies and gentlemen.”

Dear Ms. Vanessa, I hope you and your family are well. Thank you for your recent stay with us and submitting a review. While I was happy to have read that you had a positive experience with Felix, Housekeeping and In Room Dining, I sincerely apologize for the slow delivery in service at Contour Bar. Engaging with the guest is part of the Ritz Carlton culture and the second staff member who assisted you should have provided additional service once you informed him that you had dinner reservations. I retrieved your reservation and saw that your room was indeed one of our Park View Rooms. While I understand that Reception was not able to honor an upgrade, I hope that the view of Central Park was on a complimenting level. If available, the next upgrade would have been a Grand Park View (levels 10-22), which unfortunately, is very limited at our hotel. Due to our location, Central Park views are often very high in demand, even during the slower months. I apologize that the hotel could not accommodate you on the higher floors. My Leaders at Reception and Contour Bar are aware of your recent experience. Your feedback is invaluable as it allows us to review our daily operations and that our Ladies and Gentlemen be retrained if needed. Please accept my most sincere apologies that we failed to provide the genuine care and comfort that we are known for. Please do not hesitate in contacting Executive Assistant, Tina Tza at tina.tza@ritzcarlton.com should you have any concerns or questions. We hope to have an opportunity in welcoming you once again in the near future. Warm Regards, Douglas Housley General Manager, The Ritz-Carlton New York, Central Park

I think there is a daily service fee but I don’t recall how much it is. The amount is probably posted on their website. The hotel would be able to tell you how much the required deposit is at checkin if you contact them.
