Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Just spent six days at the Kixby and had a great time. It is a lovely little place. Many hotels in New York are incredibly expensive and feel run down. The Kixby isn't cheap, but it is lovely. The rooms look like the photos. The staff were friendly. The roof top patio has an incredible view of the Empire State Building. The location is great. The Herald Sq. Subway is just steps away. If you want to walk to plays on Broadway it is only a short 10 minute stroll. Around the corner, Little Italy Pizza at 33rd and 6th is a great spot for a late night slice. Green Leaf Gourmet is a great little deli at 34th and Park and makes a great cheese, bacon and egg bagel. And if you are looking for a good drink the Portrait bar at 28th and 5th is amazing. Thank you Kixby... you rock.

This hotel was recommended to us by our travel agent. It lived up to expectations. Friendly staff and smooth check in. Lovely spacious room especially for New York sizes. Room was cleaned daily, they did forget our daily water but nothing a trip to reception didn’t solve. We had an incident where a top was mistaken for a towel and once notified it came back clean and pressed. The location of the hotel is great, right outside Macy’s and the Empire State Building. The view from the roof top is a must especially at night. Walking distance to lots of fantastic sites and restaurants. This was our 3rd trip to New York and when we go again we will definitely stay at The Kixby. Would’ve already booked but it’s sold out!

We feel this hotel was not as it was advertised, the pictures we looked at before visiting look light and had solid wood flooring, not laminate. We found our room to be dark, cold and small, the heating a/c unit made hell of a racket when on, and your unable to open any windows, also no heating in the bathroom. Requested a high floor room, which we didn't get, we were put on the 4th floor at the back of the hotel, with a view of a brick walls, which obviously made the room feel even darker. The bed and bedding was very good, the shower was decent, the rooms were cleaned to a high standard, the staff were also all very friendly and helpful. Maybe we were just unlucky with our room, I see from other reviews on here that other guests had fantastic views of the empire state.

Just spent 11 night in the Kixby for a special trip. The welcome was warm and friendly and informative. The room on the 6th floor was spacious and quiet, spotlessly clean daily. The Look Up roof bar area was amazing with the best view of the Empire State Building in all its glory!. It’s situated in the middle of most things, bars restaurants and shops Macy’s at the end of the street. Would return in a heart beat.

We stayed for 4 nights as part of my 40th birthday celebrations. The hotel kindly left me a card and bottle of bubbly, which was a really nice touch. Our room was spacious and comfortable. Hotel facilities including the gym are all great, and the location is ideal for tourists.

Gutted I'm even having to write this, I am not one to moan but this hotel really isn't what i thought it would be in regards to customer service. We woke up to a leak in our room which was coming from the bathroom, we used every towel possible to clean it up in a panic, we went down to get more towels and got moved to another room. A guy come up to our room to check it over who flushed the toilet and said,' it doesn't sound right'... a stressful, morning but we moved on from it ...a day passes and we get a letter slipped under our door saying the manager Anu wants to speak to us to 'understand' what happened'?? which was a worry as we didn't even understand it ourselves. The meeting took place and i explained what happened we woke up to a leak in the bathroom.....the manger said we must have left the tap on????... i explained over and over again that was not the case yet she didn't believe me.. i thought the meeting was to understand what had happened so she could prevent this happening again instead she made her mind up before the meeting even took place, that we left a tap on ( we definitely didn't) ... so we sat for around 10/15 minutes of her interrogating me,and insinuating I'm a liar without actually calling me one... i felt so judged and powerless..i asked are you trying to charge me she said yes $500 for the damage ...i explained i don't have that kind of money as this trip was a gift yet she had NO empathy and continued to insinuate that it was our fault.. i really wish i didn't pay as it was no fault of our own, I have never been treated with such judgement and tension before. I said i am not paying it and she said i had no choice... there are so many other hotels in new York to choose from, and i would advise anyone NOT book this place. $500 is a lot of money for me, but for a multi-millionaire company this isn't at all a drop in the ocean for them. This situation completely ruin our trip Manger Anu should not be sitting in the chair that she is if she can so easily demand money from people with no proof of her theory which still isnt true. since being home i have explained this to everyone i have spoken to, and each person has been gobsmacked that this actually happened. I will continue to tell everyone to avoid this hotel at all cost cause it probably end up costing you more money....no sorry was given by manger Anu that i can remember anyway as i was concentrating more on trying to process the shock of this....and still am!! STAY AWAY FROM THIS HOTEL

We sincerely apologize for any misunderstanding or discomfort you experienced during your conversation with our manager. We want to assure you that it was never her intention to make you feel intimidated or unwelcome. Upon careful investigation, it was determined that the damage was caused by the sink faucet inadvertently being left on in your room's bathroom, leading to the unfortunate flooding of both your room and the guest's room below. We understand the panic and frustration this incident must have caused you, and we empathize with your situation. Please know that the charge of $500 was assessed as a minimum to cover the damages incurred. We remain committed to resolving any issues as fairly as possible.

Friendly, warm welcome. Rooms tastefully done and generously sized, with super comfortable beds. Nice touch with the free reusable water bottle and amazing variety of waters to select from. Great coffee in your room too. Best hotel we've stayed at, in New York. We were in the street side of the hotel so there was street noise, however I enjoyed listening to the authentic sounds of New York before I popped my ear plugs in.

Lovely hotel, room, food and service but felt robbed on check out for the nightly $35 charge for amenities. If that was transparent in terms of fees and amount then not an issue but it isn’t it’s very hidden. Shame as without that I’d have rated 5 star, B A holidays also at fault for not being transparent.

We are dismayed to read about your experience at check out and would like to let you know that we consider BAH a great partner and will follow up with them on this issue. The facility fee is a standard part of all reservations and we work to not only be transparent about it, but to also include items that add value to our guests' experience. We stayed here for four nights as part of a package with Virgin Holidays and the main plus points are definitely the cleanliness (absolutely spotless) and the location (very central to main tourist attractions and close to MSG). The staff are also friendly and are helpful when it comes to directions, booking airport taxis etc. Another positive was the very comfortable bed and cosy bedding - needed after long days exploring the city. Now for the negatives - our main issue was the noise at night. Obviously we expected noise to some degree in central NYC but there didn't seem to have been any attempt at soundproofing the windows/rooms - we were on one of the highest floors and could still hear loud traffic/street noise all night. We have stayed at other NYC hotels very close to this one and this has not been the case. There was also a constant humming from an air conditioning unit which seemed to continue regardless of whether or not we turned it off in the room. Watch out for the $35 per day facility fee per room that will be charged upon check in (on top of $250 refundable holding deposit). We did not know about this beforehand but were informed that the fee was for things such as the gym, unlimited flavoured water and a branded water bottle that was left in the room. I believe that this is relatively common in NYC but even so, we would have chosen not to pay for these things had it not been mandatory and again is not something that we have not experienced elsewhere. Unfortunately due to the above reasons, we would stay elsewhere next time, however I expect that you could do a lot worse than this hotel.

Lovely clean hotel and great decor check in was nice and easy and staff were all friendly and very helpful.. The resort fee or what ever it's called is a bit mad tbh 35 dollars a day for unlimited water is all I could see but that's what we expect now with traveling to the US. Maids were all form and did an amazing job all polite and friendly when we bumped into them in the hall... The heating unit was like an old tractor starting up and the shower removed a layer of skin as it had three shower heads which made showering scary but weirdly fun. ( User error maybe on my part ) Room had a safe and a fridge which was nice. Noise of the bar downstairs was a bit of a pain as our room was above it but little gripes that's all.. Well worth it tbh
